Your not alone, sometimes i have the same problem as you in regards to coming across aggresive. I dont mean too, but i struggle to get what i mean across, which frustrates me. And most annoying is when i have a complete brain fart all together and i cant form a sentance and cant get the words out. But usually im fine. I just stop, compose myself and try again.
Doesnt always work though, and i just give up on saying a sentance and move on ____________________ PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!!! I cannot be held liable for anything that i post.

Some see being articulate as using words or language that most have to use a dictionary to find the meaning. Where as being really articulate, is to make yourself understood within the group you are communicating with. There is no use using words like masticate, if those you are talking to think you are wanking, but in the same way you wouldn't say something like, had a gob full while talking, if you were talking in official surroundings.
Most people get their meaning across, even if it is spult rung, as the person who corrects the spelling must have understood what was being said to correct it. I mean, you wouldn't go around correct peoples pronunciation all the time would you?
So don't worry about it. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

I can be extremely articulate in both Skudd's insightful way (being understood within the group you are talking with) and in the literal way of using long words and fairly complex sentence structure, on here most of the time, and in a real scenario sometimes.
But if I get stuck, I just quite literally change my entire face to represent a deformed badger's, which usually garners a laugh from people and thus bypasses my previous failing of finding the right words with which to articulate my thoughts.

I have trouble remembering the words I want to use, I'll be chatting away and I'll go to say something but by the time I get to the end I'll have forgotten the word I wanted and will have to substitute it for something much less effective and meaningful
Oddly enough, I never forget the word that describes not being able to put your finger on a word you want to use: Lethologica.
Atleast I can use the right word to explain why what I just said sounded a bit crap.

Listening to comedy quizzes on radio 4 might help? Things like Just a Minute, The News Quiz and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.
Also read more and more widely. It will increase your vocabulary.
If you don't know a word, describe what you mean in more detail using other words, don't just use a different word that isn't quite right. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I agree with Skudd to a large extent. I try to use words that are understandable by as many people as possible. The other reason for this, is any words that arent ordinary, will mean slightly different things to different people, and you cant define your terms all the time.
I think Stink has a point though, that if you talk baby talk at people they probably don't like being talked down to. I may change a bit in light of that.
Sometimes, its clearer to express yourself with longer sentences and longer words, if people can be bothered to understand what you say. If you try to dumb down too much, you lose content.
For me, the two newspapers which have perfectly written words, are the Sun, and the Economist.
Admittedly, the Sun keeps it pretty simple, but its like comprehensible poetry, perfectly formed.
While the economist, deals with complex ideas, yet manages to make all articles understandable with no prior knowledge, yet be at a high level. Most journalists know very little about what they are talking about, but with the economist, articles are written by experts in their field. However, they are always written with wit and flair.
I'd suggest going to www.economist.com, if you want to get better at expressing ideas with words. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |
