Provided you put the crack and rod in as a unit it's definately do-able by someone with enough tools to open up an engine
As others have said your mates engine probably has worn bearings where the crank sits, so changing these would be inexpensive and a bloody good idea. |

Pretty simple. Pretty much a case of split the engine, lift old crank out, drop new crank in.
Obviously you'd need to remove whatever is on either end of the crank too which can be more or less complex depending on the model.
As said, might be a good time to renew the main bearings. Also fit new crank seals (assuming it's a stroker).
Look at it this way. You currently have two fucked engines. If you make an almighty arse of the job, at the end of the day, you would still have two fucked engines. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. check the new crank for up and down play with the con road, if there is no movement then go for gold,
if there is movement then you need to get the crank pressed apart,
and then you'll need a new crank pin and big end bearing,
normally you'd do the whole sh' bang annd normally when you buy a conrod kit you get the crank pin, big end bearing and the conrod,
you'll also have to get everything pressed back together and balanced, just a little bit out and she'll vibrate herself to bits,
ive done it all by hand before, with just a drift and a hammer,
then a couple of bits of wood and a nail to balance.
that isn't recommended, and the bike was in a very low state of tune, ____________________ the humans are dead

the damaged one moves freely?? is it notchy when you rotate the conrod on the crank pin? (keep crank in one place, then rotae the conrod around the crank pin, there should be nolittle bumps or notches)
it shouldnt grind anywhere, although you should have to bent washers (thrust washers) that are between the conrod and the crank, on the same crank pin
these hold the conrod centered on the bearing/crank pin
ideally there should be no movement around the pin at all,
sideways movement is fine, there should be no grinding or any resistance as you spin the conrod,
if there is even the tiniest amount of sloppiness or grinding, then at high revs it'll be far worse, and you'll grind and shake things to bits.
if the crank in your other bike was known to be ok and running,
then give it a quick check over and slap it in,
its only a couple of hours work,. and as said.. you'll be no worse off  ____________________ the humans are dead

they look good, no grinding & no debris in there.
i know the bearings are only a tenner each but im gonna have to pay someone to remove them (or cut them off) & pay someone to put the new ones on.
why cant i just slap it in, replace the seals & hope for the best?
its a 20yr old engine, will it matter?
ps just realised the crank in the mtx125 engine is identical to the crank in the mtx200!

Bearings are bearings,if the engine is opened it`s worth changing them,they might look good but you cannot actually see.Also you can replace the bearings ,it ain`t that hard ,I can usually take them out with a flat screwdriver and a hammer,and also when you put the new ones in be careful not to hammer them it,with a piece of wood and a lot of grease will do the trick  |
