I've just bought some ear plugs and have now worn them for a grand total of 3 journeys. Wow.

Very weird, it feels almost like I'm cushioned from the outside world. Kinda hard to explain. I was expecting to be going faster (as I'd been warned about) so for the first journey I was kinda paranoid about my speed and wasn't any faster than normal, however I was a gear or 2 lower than normal and so a coupla thousand revs higher. Its odd. At about 70mph and 10k rpm I can only just hear the engine.

Anyway - I shall persevere with them and see how they affect a longer motorway ride.

Have used earplugs for years now and wouldn't ride without them.

Did it once recently and my bike sounded like a bag of tits! Shocked Some lids are noisier than others too.

I use them on long rides purely because my bike ain't too quiet and also my lid is bad for wind noise.

Its funny like you say, when I swallow I can hear like an air leak. Laughing

I've been wearing them for about 6 months now. You're right that they feel really weird the first few times you wear them. However if I don't wear any now it feels really loud and I feel kind of exposed Confused

I've certainly felt the benefits though. Before, after a long ride my ears used to ring for a bit when I got home because of the wind noise. Not anymore with the ear plugs in Very Happy

I dont use plugs.

Isn't that feeling of being 'cut-off' from the world a bit of a danger? Could you hear a car skidding, horn being used???

Intresting what your saying, I've never worn them either, I've bought some, as my ears have been ringing after long journeys on the dual carriage ways. I'm a bit worried about not hearing what the engine is up to.

Is the noise a big problem for most of you lot?

I occasionally use the bike on long motorway journeys and have never been bugged by the noise - I've got a half decent Shoei helmet, maybe it is really good at blocking the noise??

Maybe some helmets are better at cutting out wind noise etc than others.

I've only just recently bought some ear plugs. I find that I'm not affected by wind until 80mph+. Generally under 100Mph isn't that bad. But 100mph+ gets quite sore after a while. I only put them in if I intend to use the motorway or go on a long rideout.

Through town is a bit weird at first as you can't hear anything. One thing that did catch me out was the ambulance coming up fast behind me. Couldn't hear it. I did spot it in time in my mirrors though. Might not the next time though.

Hi

I find that they add about 10mph to the comfy cruising speed on the Bandit.

If you find your ears ringing after a ride then you have done them perminant damage Shocked . Crash helmets do vary with how well they protect you from wind noise, but they are pretty much on a scale varying from awful downwards.

As to hearing the engine, to be honest at lower speeds you can still hear plenty and at higher speeds you would not have a hope in hell of hearing much of what the engine is doing over the exhaust noise.

All the best

Keith

I've only had tinitus once that I remember, but I'm more concerned with doing the damage slowly over time.

I must say that wearing ear plugs has not really crossed my mind.

Also they are quite freaky things...all squishy and foamy and....weird.

i like ear plugs, but they are impractical for certain rideouts when you are trying to shout at each other at traffic lights

i will wear them on most long journeys, just cos its far more relaxing, but they are one more bit of hassle involved in getting ready to ride

Hi

The molded ones are easy to put in and use. Cost around £50.

All the best

I wear earplugs on longer rides. I still hear horns and cars skidding etc, because I find that the earplugs only seem to screen unwelcome high frequency noise like wind noise etc...

They are very good at that, and my bike sounds and feels smoother with them in.

I reccomend them heartily!

I wear earplugs all the time and have gotten used to them, to the point where riding without them seems loud and unpleasant. The NSR occasionally makes funny noises too, and I like it when the plugs drown these noises out - if i don't hear them i don't worry about them Thumbs Up Smile .

I normally try to use earplugs on longer jouneys, or ones where I've been on the TL as it's quite a loud bike. The one advantage I do have is the company I work for happen to make earplugs so there are lots of them around at work. They've just supplied £30,000 worth of them to Glastonbury festival for thier staff for the weekend Laughing Laughing Shocked .

Lol, its not just me then. Laughing
I wear them every now and then (not very often) and the first time I used them it felt almost as though I was hovering down the road. As mentioned, I did ride faster than normal but noticed almost straight away, everything just seemed comfier for some reason.

I wear them any time I'm out on the Motorway or A1, even for the 13 mile trip to work as it's mostly 100mph. My lid is a bit windy though, but I'd prefer to avoid tinnitus as best I can.

I want to wear ear plugs as my OGK is v loud and it's very uncomfy/annoying.

I can't really find anything that's actually comfortabe/stays in/cuts out noise though and don't want to spend £50 on a custom set, but i guess they are woirth it in the long run, hmm
