Looking for some quick and easy chill prevention systems.

I have a journey tonight 30 miles and was out riding in the snow today and was bloody cold and that was some back roads not going too fast.

I will be going 60mph for a fair bit of the journey as the roads are big main roads and should have been gritted.

1. I have cut up 2 4pint milk bottles and strapped them onto the front of my bars using parcel tape which should keep the wind away from fingers.

2. Lots of layers, 2 t shirt, hoodie, jacket, puffy jacket, another jacket

3. Jeans. Not much else on the bottom half

What else can I do in the next couple of hours to help stay warm?

Wear two pairs of jeans.

Thermals or (not that I do this) wearing tights would help!

Or just man up and have a hot shower when you arrive.

It is so cold out there. Even 4 layers was cold today.

I will be doing regular stops to warm up a bit.

2 pairs of jeans is what I am planning. Hopefully it doesn't snow anymore tonight as I can't be doing 30 miles at 10mph with feet down.

Haha, I'm thankful for my drum brakes and even more so that my rear drum brake just isn't really working anymore. I think I remember getting some axle grease on the brake pad the last time I had the back wheel off Confused Oh well, at least I know I'll never lock up the back wheel in these conditions. Saying that I'm convinced they won't slow me down at all enough to avoid an accident but you live and learn (can't be bothered to open her up now).

I was out there today and it was bloody freezing but I was doing OK. And +1 for the many, many socks! With jeans, tshirt, hoodie and amazing thermal textiles it was only really my fingers that were suffering. I tried to get to a bike shop today but was too late or I would already have some muffs. The milk bottle idea being used as handle bar guards is a surprisingly good idea. I think I'm going to try that.

Did a trip of 34 miles today. I was so worried about the ice/snow/slush/Audi mentalists that I didn't even notice the cold until shortly before I got home. Fortunately it's only ever my fingers that suffer. The rest of me is pretty much cold proof, unless the temps drop to silly levels (-10 and the like).

I find dousing myself in petrol and setting myself alight as I head off on a long journey keeps the chill off and makes you more visible to other road users.

Newspaper or bit of foam ( back protector?) in front under jacket. Stop Core wind chill. Tape up trousers so no wind up leg. Scarf. latex gloves under other gloves.

Take it you mean denim jeans? If so they are the worst thing you can wear in cold weather as they hold the cold apart from the fact they will melt into your skin if you come off.

I wear leather jeans with my draggin jeans on top without the need for thermals on my legs. Then T shirt thermal top sweatshirt then my Dainese fabric jacket on top. For my neck I use a Buff.

I tend to wear a thermal top, compression top, two normal t-shirts, fleece and leather jacket. On the bottom it's thermal trousers, pair of quilted trousers (have some kind of padding in for warmth) and then a pair of jeans with boots over them (thermal socks).

Only my hands that suffer! Thumbs Up.

The hands freezing off keeps coming up and apart from spending £100 odd on them heated gloves, what else is there out there?

The heated grips seem a waste of time as well. Would be good to have a similar thing like the hand protectors on the supermoto type bikes but almost like a scooped piece of plastic that you can put your hands into.

I think that would work pretty well as I only seem to get completely numbed finger tips which doesn't help with clutch and braking control.

I'm bored out me brain so decided to illustrate what I mean...

This is probably on some bikes? I don't know.

The problem with that design is the thumbs look unprotected from the wind.

Got back this morning.

Ride out there, I stopped once to warm up but was ok for the most part. Just my legs got really cold by the end.

The milk bottles were OK, I have ordered muffs so they are temporary but definitely helped.

The ice was everywhere. I saw little grit on the roads last night and my revs would bounce up when I went over ice due to wheel spinning which on a 4t 125 is damn impressive. Very slippy. Apart from those though, no slips at all. Front wheel stayed planted the whole journey.

The way back today, very hungover. Cold and everything was frozen, even the needle on my rev counter was frozen. It had rained a bit then frozen last night.
Roads were very well gritted, only problem being the car in front flinging small rocks at me. One hit me in the neck, another bang in the middle of the visor. An Audi overtook me whilst I was doing 50-55 and my legs were bombarded with pain.

Apart from that, it was good Thumbs Up

My design was only a quick mock up at about 3am in the morning ha. Wasn't supposed to be designed to scale or anything, just so you get the general idea. A colour coded and aerodynamic piece of plastic that allows for your entire hand to go into as well as fitting the grips in there or something, I dunno.

The rig up ones below look awful, if you got a £10,000 sports bike, you aren't want to put them on the end of it.

I thought that was synthetics rather than cotton?

I wear a pair of waterproof (and therefore windproof) mitts over my gloves - kind of restrictive but they make a big difference.
