i have a honda CB125TDE i believe 87 reg ,
it has major starting problems
the bike electric start , it will start but it wont keep going it'll just start with enough thats in the carbs and thats it ,

any suggestions ?

she also has a squeak/sqwarking noise sometimes when i use the throttle to start her up with ..

i'm really stuck and want to avoid an engine rebuild as i need her for work etc ...

have you turned the fuel off ?
cold weather so is the choke on ?
bike left outside ? freezing petrol in pipes and float bowl ?

So you press the starter and it gets going. For how long does it run after you let go of the starter button? Does giving it a bit of throttle help? does using the choke make things better or worse?

I had a 1984 one that would only start with 1/4 throttle, a tiny bit more or less and it was impossible. so it might be a case of getting the knack of it rather than an actual mechanical fault.

They are a little tempermental. Start it with the choke, then put some throttle on, until you feel the engine just on the verge of dying.

After about 5minutes the engine will be nice and warm, at which point it will just pick up and run like any other engine. Mine did it all the time to no ill effect.

But I did run it for about 5mins afterwards with the choke on because if it didn't you could garuntee it would die at the 1st junction.

could be a fuel tank breather or tap issue,have you disconnected the fuel pipe and turned the tap on does any fuel trickle out? or try taking the fuel cap off and running it to eliminate tank cap breathing problems Smile

That squeek on startup is also something mine did. I think its the starter clutch making the noise, besides attracting a few odd looks, it was never really a problem Laughing
