Ok, first of all I'll say really quick, I doubt any of you will have heard of this as the story's about a month old and happened across the pond, but I was just curious what opinions you guys hold of performers pushing the boundaries regarding public decency.
Adam Lambert, runner-up in American Idol this year, performed at the American Music Awards on the 22nd of November. He sang one of his own songs, the lyrics of which were... let's say racy. The performance followed suit as Adam proceeded to "enhance" it from the rehearsal and simulated oral sex on stage, as well as kissing his male keyboardist. Three appearances scheduled on other daytime shows the following week were promptly cancelled, some others - including interviews - were pre-recorded for fear of... well, I dunno... him suddenly jumping up and mimicking a BJ with the host.
In response to the uproar, Adam spoke in several interviews and claimed he "was just interpreting the lyrics" and that "those lyrics aren't for everybody [...] it's about going out to a club, and getting laid" and so on. He also said immediately after his performance that the songs he was singing later in the week had a much different vibe, being more about love and the search for love, not sex.
The appearance was the last on the show and was well after 10pm. People complained that their kids were witness to the shenanigans, but I can't help wondering, why are the kids up at that time? Even if they are fans, shouldn't the parents exercise a little discipline, responsibility, or just accept the fact that it happened and explain it to any confused kids? Such controversy about his adventurous display of sexuality, yet when Madonna and Britney started making out on stage a few years back no-one batted an eyelid. Surely a gay kiss is the same, regardless of gender?
I'm more interested in your opinions on this kind of behaviour than the politics behind it, although if you want to elaborate on the USAs closed-minded views of sexuality then that's cool. I'll probably learn something.
I'm very much of the opinion that no lines were crossed. I think that the people who didn't like it had a choice whether they watched it or not, and I think that the "damaged kids" will be pretty much unaffected because once they reach their teens parents have little control over them. It's human nature to learn and experiment and try new/different things, and teenagers do that however well or badly they're raised. Those years are there for self-discovery, and just because a kid sees sex on telly doesn't mean he'll be doing it himself before he's ready to. Parents have to grow the f**k up and accept that they can't wrap their kids in cotton wool. Life is unpleasant, people do things you don't like. Get over it.
If you want to see for yourself, look here. Interview here.
For the record, his vocals were not up to his usual standard. He's a pretty decent singer normally. ____________________ My deviantArt gallery - My Youtube profile

I'm getting more and more intolerant of crude behaviour in my old age, so I think a line was crossed. Again. Being after the 9pm watershed is no excuse, especially if it is a special occasion, such as an award ceremony, where it can be assumed younger viewers will watch it too. ____________________ My other bike's a Monster... |

I didn't see it and neither did my children, who were in bed by 9pm, so no we weren't offended.
What is offensive is that Simon Cowell has managed to flog the "Pop Idol" format around the world. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

I get the general jist that women have no more desire than straight men to see to 2 guys slipping each other a crippler - lets face it, girls look and smell good, so even other women are happy at seeing one lick anothers badger, whereas the scene of two men "clashing swords" is not so inspiring.

| Quote: | I believe some are born some have it thrust upon them, but just like an artist, you have to be shown the brush or pencil to develope your art.
If you are never given a brush or know what a pencil is are you still an artist, or just a person with ideas? |
Hmm... A very valid point. But then surely if you grew up not knowing anything about women what would your primal instincts be telling you? We are still animals with basic instincts and needs, home, food, companionship, surely you'd find a way to fill these needs?
The way you're brought up is a very important factor, but when most people become of an age they think for themselves, rethink over what values their parents/guardians have put for them. Creating their own values and ideas.
I have always wanted to draw, and yeah I agree with you, you would be just a person with an imagination until you show people what you think, then you become the artist.
Sometimes I get really strong urges to draw something, it comes from no where. I've drawn from a young age but as you said, if I was never introduced to pencil and paper I don't know how I would achieve in expressing my ideas. ____________________ "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing."

Haha.
I have nothing against them, sorry if my comment came across that way.
I wouldn't necessarily kill him if he was in my bath but I would be very uncomfortable.
But to be fair, if anyone I didn't know was in my bath I'd still be like...

So if there was a gay in your bath, you would just leave it there rather than putting it out the window or flushing it down the toilet? |
