Hi all,

Picked up a bike last nite and noticed that the carb inlet is up agenst the rear shock so i cant put the air box in - very annoying.

i guess that its a bigger carb then the original - Anyone have any suggestions to get around this problem?

Thanks

Wow thats tight! And I thought I didnt have room. My solution was to build an airbox around the carb rubbers with filter foam and contact. Can you get the carb closer to the head? Maybe you could run a curved pipe out the carb mouth then.

Its already pretty close to the head, im going to have a real look later - i was hoping that i could mabe twist the carb enough to put a K&N style filter on - i dont think i will be able to put the original box back in.

something like this (sorry about the tiny picture)

Could you use a angled maifold so you can fit a filter next to the shock?

I think the carb's entry being so close to the shock is going up upset the intake as it is, and cause problems similar to close coupled cone filters can on 2 strokes. My solution would be to try and mount the carb on an angled intake manifold, or else stick it on Ebay, and get yourself a more compact Flatslide like a TMX mikuni etc.

Another possible option would be to get a modified manifold that allows you to use 2 small carbs. This would give just as good intake, but the smaller carbs would take up less horizontal space.

that looks like a 34mm delorto, which on alot of supercitys is a standard carb, looks to me like you have a mito inlet, rather than an angled supercity item, thats my best guess

I like this idea, i could have a carb each side of the spring but how would i get my hands on a manifold?

cheers

I don't like the 2 carbs idea. I vote for an angled manifold. Could it be that the monifold is actually angled and someone has fitted it wrong?

Hi all,

Sorry to dig up this old thread but have had few personal problems recently and had to abandon all of my projects.

Back on the game now and the bike is in the same condition (slightly more rusty Neutral )

What would be the cons of leaving it how it is? Im only going to be riding it in nice weather conditions so won’t have to worry about water ect. Do you think that “filter” is enough to keep the dust out? Will I be getting enough air in the carb?
At the moment my main priority is getting it taxed and tested so it can be more of a rolling project.

Thanks in advance.

Have you seen what the stock airbox is like? Often they're very tight like that anyway.

Hi

The filter will get drenched easily and has a very small surface area so will probably be fairly restrictive. Although it will keep the dust out.

What frame is it and what engine is it? Supercity by any chance? From vague memory I thought the carb went off to the side on them, and that doesn't look like a Dellorto carb. Looks possibly like a Mito manifold and Mikuni carb.

All the best

Keith

Well, it had some work done on it when I purchased it,

It was a supercity but has a mito 125 engine fitted, the frame is original (about the only original part) All of the fairings are from a Honda MX bike, the exhaust is custom and routed under the bike as appose to the side (held on by what looks like Meccano), Brembo breaks fitted (unless standard?) and a few other bits changed so i don’t think anything on the market would really be suitable.
Not too sure what the carb is but i don also have a standard NSR125 card that slightly smaller.
I think the Mito is a bit longer then the Super City engine and that’s one of the reasons I have the problem, Also because the fairings are smaller the battery has been moved where the air box once was.
i wouldn’t know where to start with making/obtaining a custom manifold, ideally i think this would be best.
I will try and get some better pics later.

Hi

Fairly sure the Mito and Supercity engines are basically identical. However the Supercity had a different carb manifold to push it to one side. Most Mitos had a 28mm carb very similar to the NSR, but some had a larger Mikuni or Keihin (forget which), and it is possible that carb is from one of those. Most Supercitys had 34mm Dellorto carbs.

Looking at the manual the stock carb on a Supercity is cranked off to the left, with a rubber tube then going past the rear shock and to the airbox that appears to sit behind and to the left of the shock.

Brembo brakes were also standard (although whether they are the standard ones on your bike is another question)

All the best

Keith

Hi

Yep, although probably a matching airbox and carb would make life easier. Suspect the airbox should be pretty easy to find cheaply (kind of thing not many people want when a bike is broken for spares).

All the best

Keith

YOu can get some pretty stubby minimoto filters e.g. clicky, might be worth looking into??

Even if it went in, I think having any flat surface that near the end of the bell-mouth is probably not that great an idea anyway mind you?!? Thinking

Cheers Blue,

Will defiantly be getting this sort of filter, just after the standard inlet manifold.
Hard to get any work done in this weather Mad

As said, the supercity has an angled manifold so the carb clears the shock, but it looks as if you've got a straight mito one. Good luck sourcing an angled 34mm manifold for the supercity, they are few and far between. Although I did have one for a Supercity recently which I sold on the www.125ccsportsbikes.com/forums

Check the pic of an angled manifold, this one is from an rx125 but its just to give you an idea and what's needed:

If you run a 28mm carb instead of 34mm then one of these should fit:

EBAY

EBAY

The supercity also ran a 28mm PHBH in the newer models anyway so it'll still run well. Also check that 34mm is a VHSB ES rather than a VHSB LD.
