CG exhaust rusty

Hi, need some help with my exhaust! Basically, when i bought the bike it was in this state, and im now looking to sell it.

How can i get rid of the remaining rust? Ive used steel wool to get rid of most of it but this stuff is stubborn and not coming off. Is it a case of sanding off all the rust then respraying it a chrome/aluminium colour. I know this wont match the original colour but if i spray the whole thing it will at least look better than it does now.

It looks like the chrome has peeled away revealing bare steel.

Just steel wool and Autosol or something is the best you can do without getting it re-chromed which can be expensive. Hammerite is ok but won't look anything like chrome.

Either buy a new exhaust (they are not expensive) or autosol shit out of what chrome is left. A bit of shine will direct attention from the fact that most of the plating is fubar. Don't paint it as this will advertise the fact the exhaust is knackered.

Autosol is a mild abrasive like Brasso.

It should get rid of the rust, if it doesn't then you're doing it wrong. Laughing

Cool ill pick some up tomorrow and give it a go. Is it ok to use sandpaper, or best to stick to steel wool?

Very very fine grade e.g start with 600ish and go up to 2000 if you can wet/dry paper to start then steel wool and autosol to finish

Autosol and wirewool is the way forward. Thumbs Up

Works really well, got all the dirty bits off my chrome and even the bits that looked a bit dull it was cleaning them up really well.
If you apply an the area that looks clean and buff of with a clean white rag, it gets off loads of muck you couldn't even see very easily bringing it up to a lovely shine.

I can't compare it to other products as I've never used anything else, but then again, never needed to.

Before you go down the wire wool and autosol route, try balling up aluminium cooking foil and dip it in water.

It will remove rust without spoiling the chrome finish. Press harder to increase the abrasiveness. This creates heat and oxidises to aluminium oxide, which is harder and will remove the tougher rust.

You will be surprised with the results!

Honda made loads and loads of these bikes.
breakers yards must have cheap exhausts for this bike???

i`m guessing that as the engine has remained the same?...i think? then the exhausts will be the same regardless of the year of model?

Clean it up with wire wool then polish with autosol. If it looks crap sandpaper the hell out of all the chrome removing as much as possible then paint it heatproof gloss black.

Exhausts normally look alright in black.
