honda cg125 - 1981 model carb

hi guys, i've just bought myself a 1981 honda cg125 as a little project, to familiarise myself with bikes. was wondering if you could give me some much needed pointers:

>the carburettor drain pipe is missing. i presume it was previously a rubber pipe, but where does it drain to?

>there is a thick black pipe from the engine which does not connect to anything, is this a breather pipe?

>on the side directly opposite the pilot screw, there is a small hole that leaks petrol when i lay the carb/bike on its side. is there supposed to be a pipe/cover or is this some form of air-inlet?

You're bang on with the first 2, and the carb drain pipe doesnt lead anywhere, it just flaps in the wind lol. As for the 3rd, i have no idea, my 86 doesnt have a hole there

I have a 89 cg 125 with the same thing, I believe the carb isn't the original but whenever its layed on its side it acts as an overflow and puts out excess fuel from the carb, I don't know whether there should be a tube there but I can tell you mine doesn't have one. Also on a previous 125 I had, I found out while laying on the floor after an "off" that it also had this as I was laying in a puddle of fuel coming from that particular outlet on the carb, pays to know your bike inside out is the lesson I learnt (and not to brake so harshly in the wet)

I've posted a picture of my CG125, although it's a 1996 BR-T model. This shows the left hand side of my bike.

If you look above the choke lever, you will see a thinner black tube attached. Is this where the hole is?

YES! that is the black pipe above the choke. someone told me it may just be a vacuum pipe - doesn't connect anywhere and can be left off. is that what it's like on your bike?

If I recall correctly, there are 3 rubber tubes that drain down to the right hand side of my bike. They exit in the centre stand area.

I've been looking through the pictures I have and I don't have one that shows this. I'll have a look on my bike and let you know.

hey guys,

i bought a set of mirrors for the bike, but only the right one screws on - the hole on the left handle is smaller than the right.

Can anyone tell me if different screw sizes is to be expected, or have I been sent the wrong mirrors?

Hey there, i have a 1977 Honda CG, bang on with everything, and mine has a little hole, with what looks like a ball bearing in it, when turned upside down fuel leaks out, its an overflow pipe.

There are 3 rubbers tubes, breather pipe, overflow pipe, and the battery acid overflow.

My mirrors where different sizes, but one has a thread that it screws into, the right hand side is just a hole with a nut on the bottom.

Can i ask a question, does yours have a heat sheild between the card and the engine? I know the earlier ones had it, but do they need it?

yes mine does, although it is cracked and barely holding on... yours probably just fell off. Reckon mine will fall off pretty soon too

does anyone know what the little black cylinder is under the headlights? it has wires conected, is it the ignition coil/condenser? Mine starts to smoke after the engine runs for over 10 minutes!!

The electric system takes a few minutes to kick in after ignition which is strange - eg. the horn wont work to begin with, also the indicators will take a while before flashing weakly then slightly stronger...

All indicators produce weak light, but im sure the bulbs are the right voltage/wattage. can you think of anything that's wrong with the electrics?
