In the last few years I've picked up a strange 'skill'. It got really strong while I was in Mozam (shortly after all the Lariam I suppose) and is fading a bit now.
When I'm trying to fall asleep, and I close my eyes, I regularly start to get an image forming of stuff I'd expect to see. So if I'm facing in to my room (ie not facing the wall) I'll see chairs, tables etc. All static. And then I think my eyes are open, so I have to open them to check. Usually the image is slightly off, but not massively.
But I can also control it, once I get in to that state I can start controlling what I see. They're never crisp outlines, and it takes some work, but I have had all kinds of weird shit. It's like lucid day dreaming I suppose, but I am most definitely awake while this is happening.
Is at it's weirdest when I sleep behind someone, basically with their head half a foot from my face, and I start to form the image of all their hair and the duvet covering them etc. It's never perfect, and yet it feels very detailed.
So, yeh erm... any other takers? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

Only thing I can think of is like you said lucid dreaming.
Or you're crazy.

I have a weird thing when i'm on the way to falling asleep.
I will see myself from a birds eye position, lying on the bed, there are no bed covers, bedroom is mostly as I picture it but the bed isnt always one I recognise, its all in saturated black and white, pristine sheets, no covers, it zooms out, then back in again. I am normally lying on my side in a foetal position.
I'm completely aware of it happening, as I can hold a conversation during it, but it makes me quite uncomfortable, and stops me getting away to sleep until I can stop thinking about it.
Disturbingly I have memories of a similar issue, right back to when I was young, living in a different house, sharing a room with my little brother on bunkbeds.
It's almost like a nightmare that never leaves, except that i'm aware its happening and can prevent it getting worse, just about.

I can "see" all the equipment in the darkroom at my work. Despite it being absolutely and utterly 100% dark for the green sensitive film (we have a blue-safe light but not a green-safe light). I usually have my eyes closed too, although I'm not sure why because it makes not a jot of difference. I swear you can even "see" the second hand on the clock.
Really freaks me out if someone hasn't put something back where it's supposed to be because I can "see" it but it isn't there. Goosey is closest. It's not really that cool. Well, I try and get it started, but it does make me a bit uncomfortable sometimes.
Chives, my brain is lekker thank you very much. Just like to check other people do the nuts stuff. No one ever admits to it in real life, so you end up feeling like a head case. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Sounds like the beginning of sleep paralysis old boy. I've had what you describe for years now, and it's not always comfortable, in fact I'd always end up opening my eyes to get rid of the phosphene images. It's especially concerning when you start seeing shapes of people moving, faces etc, but yes I do sometimes have to open my eyes to check that they were closed in the first place, and have been able to see downstairs the contents of the mantlepiece.
I've never really tested it;s accuracy in terms of whether things are really where I see them to be, I think this is because mainly it happens when I am really actually wanting to go to sleep.
Do you smoke cannabis on a regular/semi-regular basis? I found it was irrevocably pronounced after smoking weed (as was full on sleep paralysis), but I haven't touched weed in many many months, and even then it was a couple of pulls on a spliff, and I was getting this 2 nights ago.

I get a similar 'detached' feeling as Goosey. I can see everything, and it feels as though I'm floating above the room (even though I'm clearly just in bed).
Makes me feel ever so slightly sick(ish), like I'm about to fall back into bed. It's difficult to discribe but I quite like how it feels... I know I'm going to have a great night's sleep once I finally drop off properly. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I was smoking a lot of (good) weed in Mozam. Proper weed though, not this skunk bollocks. The odd small skin before bed was just the ticket. And then you're right, it was very pronounced. But even when I didn't, and alot of other times in the past before I bothered to smoke (and I wasn't coming down from 'proper' drugs) it was fairly epic.
Strange. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's irritating.
Barry, when I first starting drinking down my local ~15-16, I had a habit of calling everyone 'Son'. That went down well a couple of times ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I can do a little bit of what everyone is saying. The sleep paralysis now usually happens when I'm awake and lying down in bed eyes closed. As such I can feel the SP "building up" and can abort it by opening my eyes if I want to....
My strangest experience was lying on my back in bed and closing my eyes. I could feel myself sinking through the bed. I opened my eyes and I was still awake so I decided to go a little further. I felt myself sinking through the bed and then "woke up" face down on the bed in my room. Thing was though that it was a dream! It was kind of like a camera shot fading out and then refocussing on a new scene in perfect smoothness. From lying on my back IRL, fade to black then fading back in lying on my front in a dream version of my bedroom.
When I "woke up" properly on my back I was well impressed!
This is different from the normal sleep "sinking" feeling I can do. I can make it feel as though I am simultaneously falling back first and spinning around. Its quite fun although it also makes me feel quite travel sick.
Fun things brains |
