So in summer i'm going to do a trackday, never done one before, probably around july, and i'm thinking donnington. Probably get myself onto an intermediate session or something.

i dont really like the idea of ''turning up and going slightly fast'', so i want to race someone. stakes optional.

I'd be on my R6, and my stake would be of similar value to whatever yours is. cash or items, whatever.

not too fussed about winning or losing, i'd just rather go on a racetrack to race.

any takers?

How about actually doing a trackday first instead of going in there and betting things which you will probably end up losing?

OK, I'll race you there.
Ill race my 2004 r1 against whatever you have and we'll bet v5 for whoever is the winner.

btw check out my facebook group triplesevenracing if you want to square me up.
Ive only done 12 trackdays so its not gonna make much difference because your gonna be really talented and will become a trackday heroe. HRC will be there and they will see soo much talent, there scout you into the gp team to help dani pedrose get honda the crown title back.

this is a serious bet, so dont be a prick if you cant live up to it. trackdays are not for heroes like you!!!!

if you dont like what im saying then take my offer

It was suggested I should also make a similar offer, but, going in inters generally annoys me Smile.

For the record, a pretty high percentage of people I've seen that have gone fast on track from the off have also crashed in one of their first two trackdays.
There's a lot of differences between fast road and fast track riding and while some do cross-over, not all do, so you're putting it down to luck if you don't progress smoothly.

I just hope you don't hurt anyone else with your attempts at 'racing'.

maybe you should also read the second to last line...

Sorry deano, i dont have anything of equivalent value.

My plan was to do whatever for the first few sessions, then the last one would be the fun one once im used to it (how many do you get per day?)

im not talking massive house family wife monkey bike bets, just adding a competitive edge to it
like i give a fuck if i win or not. I was obliterated at mini motos

Maybe you should read your second line Wink. [edit]And, actually your second to last line - a single trackday isn't very long before you set your targets on 'a race' and to me seems to be asking for trouble.[/edit]

7 normally, although the last ones tend to be quiet as so many people are knackered and packing up to go home.

Seriously though, get some track experience first. Trackday riding is a world away from fast road riding, and racing another world away.

All the best

I suggest booking yourself on a trackday, go along with as much cash as you want to put at stake, then before the first session go for a wander around the pit lane. Talk to people, explain it's your first trackday and you're wanting to race for money, I expect you'll find someone willing to take your money. Thumbs Up

Or ask on motoforum.net as lots of racers will be doing trackdays at the moment and could use the extra cash.

Should be interesting Cool Any thoughts of how fast you think you are, just throw them out of the window. Track is different, I know people who are fairly slow on the road but rarely get overtaken in the fast group on track and people who I cant keep with on the road but quite easily go around the outside of them on the track.

I'm not saying you wont be fast but probably best to do a trackday before hand, if you find your self overtaking everyone in the Inters then you should be fine, just be careful, if you go in with the attitude of going very fast there's a good chance you will crash. Just make sure you're not a cock on track, any dangerous close overtakes will not be taken lightly, it's quite easy to see the ones who are a little out of control.

thats why the last session of the day would be best for anything like this to happen.
no idea how fast i am really, the only ''race'' i seem to do pretty regularly is the torpoint roads in summer. over 9 miles i get about 1 minute ahead (torpoint to trerulefoot).
that didnt change when i had my SRAD or my R6, and against things like FZR600's, R6's, CBR600's and ZX10Rs. tbh i think most of the time made is taking risks though.

obv i wasnt that far ahead of the zx10r as it would do me in the straights and i'd go round on the corners. or the FZR actually, as tristan_the is probably the best rider i ride with when he isnt being a fanny and getting points.

that sounds more like it matt, some peeps brag that they are fast on the road and tell all the girly that they are something special because they do 120mph wheelies and get there kneedown and knowone ever passes them on the road.

when they get on the track they are shocked to find that they cant even cut it in inters and this iis peeps I know.

if you wanna go fast just ask an instructor to show you come out with me and a Ill show you some basics if you dont know.

im currently sponsored by a motorbike shop and being shown the ropes be an ex world supersport race and im just starting to realise how big of a task this really is im not gonna die for this as I do want a family etc.

as long as you apply the right attitude everyone is willing to help as Im starting to reel in sponsors so this really could turn out to be something special I just have to keep it up.

all im saying is if you want to do something special with your riding then change your attitude and it will take you alot futher than you think.

the only thing i can see as being a major setback is i hate riding close to other bikes.

fine, if i smash into a car, i get hurt and thats it, but i take as much of a wide berth as possible when filtering past bikes as i dont trust them to look before they change direction.

If you get caught racing you'll get kicked off of the track faster than you can say "non competitive track event".

Various other people on this forum thought that they'd be fantastic on track. They were wrong.

Pride comes before a fall as they say.

When you still had the SRAD and i was used to the R6 I kept you behind me up torpoint twisties, but you were a bit quicker than me.

I'm usually front of novice back of inters to put it into a bit of perspective for you.

Hi

Suspect for most people road speed is more down to perceptions of danger (ie you might be able to get round a bend at 80, but if sightlines mean you can't see that it is clear far enough in advance to do more than 50, anything more is from ignoring the danger). Suspect most people can easily ride substantially faster than they are normally prepared to, with the faster ones just being those more prepared to rely on luck.

On a track there is far less opportunity for bad luck so people can push far harder. The advantage the brave / foodhardy have disappears.

All the best

Keith

That was the 2nd day I had the R6. We did it again after that when I was used to the R6.

Think both of us are about the same, as in don't really care whats round the corner, just go as fast as we can.
