Best bike boots!

I've now been through 3 sets of bike boots in the past 2-3 years. The last pair lasted about 3 weeks before I took them back this Saturday for a refund due to the zip coming apart twice and the first time it rained I got soaked toes!

The pair before that were a Spada pair that were pretty good, lastest for about a year - year and a half before they started letting in water. But then all the velcro came away from the leather so they had to go in the bin.

The first pair I ever had are the best. Frank Thomas Street they're called. They're about 4 yrs old and now let in a bit of water in heavy rain, but they still fit very well and the zips and velcro pads are still like new! Thumbs Up

So I'm on the lookout for another pair, I can find them everywhere for around ?80 but has anyone come across anything like these for less - I'm hoping to spend at the most ?50 due to my financial limitations at the moment!?

For 50quid I doubt you'll be able to get anything decent. Use your frank thomas ones untill you save up some more and put a tesco bag in it to make it waterproof Very Happy

Get some MVP boot liners of eBay for ?15. I go offroading in them and come home with dry feet even when I've been up to my knees in water.

Steel toed work boots and them over booty waterproof things, just as good for wet weather, and i find they keep my feet warmer than normal boots in the wet.

I picked up a cheap pair of MDK's, they take a bit of breaking in but keep the rain out and are warm enough with a pair of thermal socks.

Have a look at the RiDE review (opens a pdf) of all weather boots, they're not cheap boots that they review, but they are good.

I bought a pair of Sidi Mega Gore at the NEC bike show Dec 07 for ?190, I've just binned them having worn the soles out after 40,000 miles, just over two years.

Saturday I bought a pair of TCX Infinity, which can apparently be re-soled, I'm hoping to get at least 90,000 miles out of them, around five years.

Well waxed British army assault boots are pretty damned waterproof and offer a fair amount of protection.

Derri boots are cheap, 100% waterproof and offer negligeable foot protection (but have been worn by bikes for years).

My Sidi Vertebra have infinitely more armour protection though, but are not very good for walking(/marching?) in.

Yeah I saw all the Lild/Aldi bike gear last time it was on offer, however the boots just weren't suitable for me. I'm a size 11 and even their size 12's were too small!!

Mainly because I wear trousers/jeans then fabric waterproof/protective trousers with removeable inner padding over the top, and when it's nice weather I'll do the ankle zips up and stick the lot into my boots. That all equals a sizeable ankle width required by my boots, but also decent zips and velcro pads to keep it all together!

I'm thinking I'll just wait till next month then get the ?80 pair.

I was reading "Ride" magazine while working yesterday and there's some good gear reviews in there. There were two pairs of boots (Under ?60) that got decent reviews.

If you want them to last I would stick to Sidis or A* (I'm sure there are others too) and pay abit more.
