Ok so basically I'm on my way to work earlier this evening, sat stationary at a roundabout entrance waiting for a safe time to set off
I hear a bang and I'm being pushed across the floor by the front of a taxi, turns out he tried to stop but just slid straight in to me
Bike isn't wrote off but it's definitely not road worthy, back end is smashed up, foot peg(?) is bent like a banana, front brake lever is wrote off, exhaust is scratch up a bit and the steering is about 3 inches off balance
Anyway when I insured my bike, like an idiot, regardless of my insurance being 100% free, I stated my annual mileage at up to 2000, I'm currently on 3200
When I claim will this matter? Should I wind the clocks back? Best course of action? ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. As people have said in other insurance threads, they'll struggle to prove you did all 3,200 miles. Remember when your dad did Land's End to John 'O' Groats on it? |

Haha
Oh yeah shit, I forgot all about that
Thanks
But then again, isn't there some way they can catch me out on it and prove me wrong on some kind of technicality? For example I'm sure the bike is insured to be ridden by the proposer(?) only or whatever, if it's like this is it still fully legit for someone else who is technically legit to ride the bike? ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. Nope, we exchanged details and he said he would get in touch with his insurance as soon as he got home ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. Nope, it was 5:15ish when we were swapping details so I'm guessing he'll ring them tomorrow
I doubt he can claim that it was my fault, I was stationary, but judging by my recent streak of luck I'm looking at a ban for dangerous driving ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. It was just a normal taxi, a guys own car with a taxi plate on the front/back and a sticker on the side
It went like this
He knocks me off, when I/the car/my bike came to a stop he got out and started asking if I was alright, I picked my bike up and he held it while I picked up the bits of my reg/L plate/plastics from the back of my bike, he asked which way I was going so I told him and said I'd pull over in the nearby petrol station, we did and when I got off my bike I rang my Dad and asked him what exactly to do, he basically said get his name/address/car reg/taxi number/taxi company/insurance details/the rest of it
I'd bet my life that he was all legit, about 50 years old with his wife in the passenger seat, both were extremely apologetic and helpful, offered me a lift and all that
It was over in about 5 minutes
Looking back I should've got his reg before we went to the petrol station, meh

road traffic collision.
I would notify them, im pretty sure you should at the scene.
They come out, take statements etc.
Without that, no witnesses, plus his wife could say you swerved into him etc.. |

By all means you can call the police if you feel it's necessary for some reason, but if no one has been injured then there is no legal requirement for them to be contacted.
If one of the drivers doesn't stop after an accident (for whatever reason) then both drivers are expected to report it to the police as soon as practically possible.
You wouldn't get given a crime reference number for a simple RTA where no one has been injured and all drivers stopped at the scene, would you? As no crime has been committed what is the crime number going to be in reference to?
Wilson you should inform your insurance company in the morning, and if you're going to claim from the taxi drivers insurance then you'll need to instruct a firm of solicitors to act for you. |

Just going by the 8 crashes ive had, only 4 were hospital visits, but police were called and given statements and references for all.
Just figured that its probably in wilson123's best interest to perhaps notify them and the guys details handed over.
Not much usually comes of it, but its still looking out for numero uno! |

I'd have thought when he tells his insurance and contacts some solicitors tomorrow they'll be able to tell him what, if anything, he needs to do involving the police. |
