PostPosted: 17:13 - 06 Feb 2010    Post subject: Streetfighter-ing the CBR Reply with quote

Hey all, after a bit of thinking, and a lot of bodging I have decided that my CBR would cost far too much to get back to nice clean condition, so I am thinking about street-fighting it.

So far I've found some driving lights I had used during the winter which are bright enough to use as head lamps (What is the law regarding lights, do you need high and low beams?)

I have an electric air horn on there between the lamps instead of the stock one, just for sh1ts and giggles really, it's a monotone so I think it's ok for m.o.t.?

I've been chatting to a mate who said he has some Renthals he can give me for free, although I'll drop him a few beers for them.

I want to put a small screen to take the wind off me, I'll see about making one from acrylic or something and form it around the stock one only shorter and with mounting points (the cbr screen mounts to the fairing which mounts to the frame)

I'm not looking to spend much money at all, so it wont be a tarty fighter, more a rat fighter lol.

With regards to the m.o.t. what do I need to keep in mind? Headlights, horn, indicator positions, exposed wiring, air intakes?

What do you think about mirrors? I may put on some bar end mirrors with the Renthals as I think the stock ones look very wierd! lol

And here's a pic just for the hell of it. The first time all three bikes have been in open air together lol

Lol yea, they are what I have though.

Hmm actually I have some lamps from my Landrover project, I might see if they fit. They are alot bigger and are round.

I basically just mocked up those lights with a few nuts and brackets to see how they looked so it's still all up in the air.

They'd look a lot better one above the other, but I didn't have anything to mock up that arrangement at the time lol

Does anyone have any links to laws which I'd need to adhere to? Regulations for lights and fixtures etc?

It doesn't exactly look aggressive at the moment.

you'd be better off buying a bandit headlight and some headlight brackets, those lights are pants,
you may as well remove all the ducting, with out the fairing its useless,
same with the clocks, take them off and just get a push bike speedo (if your on a budget) or buy a koso/acewell unit if your budget isnt so tight

move all your wiring to uder the tank and keep it out of the weather
(another good point to a bandit light is you can hid a bit of the wiring inside it)

remember a fighter evolves.
make the bike practical

This is it, but its black now and i have the light mountings and brackets, but the bulbs are broken and i don't believe i have wires for it. but its easy enough to wire up.

Edit: Picture was huge

The bike will look much better when you get some bar end mirrors.

I agree with your idea to streetfighter it though! Cool

After a bit of messing, I took the extra lamps off the landy and fitted them. I cut my old broken screen (had to cut it down as half was missing) and put that on too, I just have to figure a way to secure it in place properly.

I think we can all agree the bigger lamps look a lot better lol.

The mirrors are bugging me too much, I may have to shell out for some bar end mirrors. (Will bar end mirrors fit normal bars, or just straight bars?)

The screen hides the clocks too, so they should be dead on where they are.

Moving the wiring under the tank, Is that going to be a big job?

I think it looks better without the screen.

Here's a few pick before I put on the screen.

I kinda like the screen on, and I don't know how bad wind will be at speed, so I may keep it and I may not. I'll have a think about it.

No screen FTW.

Just man up. It's fine till you get to over 120. Then just duck slightly, unless you want awesome neck muscles Laughing

I tried to sit straight up when going as fast as possible on the Hornet. It was fun. Laughing

Today I did do,

Lowered the headstock from 30mm below the top of the forks, to 45mm.

Also positioned the clip-ons below the top yolk instead of over it.

Any ideas on what way to raise the rear up?

Also with regards to tail sections and subframe, is it a case of getting one that fits, or getting one I like and making it fit?

Oh yes, and also, the clocks have to go, the master cylinder hits off them now I've lowered the clip-ons lol.
