Posted: 20:51 - 07 Feb 2010 Post subject: Does pushing a bike damage transmission? |
 |
|
Hi i just got a bike (my first) Honda xr125L.
I have to push it to my CBT as I want to spend all day on my own bike, trouble is it is a fair distance (3-4 miles or so).
Now that distance hasn't actually put me off pushing the thing, but I have read in the owners manual the following:
"Do not tow the motorcycle or coast for long distances while the engine is off. The transmission will not be properly lubricated and damage may result."
So my question is simple, will pushing it all that way damage it before I ever get to ride it?
I am desperate to ride it for my CBT but might draw the line at carrying it down there |

Have any mates with bike licences?
Friend of mine did the same. Me and another friend took him, his 50 with one of us on and him on the back on the hornet. Took him 2 of us went for a cuppa and a look round a bike shop got the call went back to the center and then home.
And don't under-estimate the distance of 4 miles! Long way when your pushing.

Contact the training school and ask if one of their riders could ride it there for you, or pick it up in a van, I got to do my CBT on my bike this way |

I had to push mine to a petrol station, probably not even half a mile up hill, took me about 20 mins, very tiring work, especially after just being on it.
Massive smile on my face when she took me home though |

Last year I pushed my bike for 6 miles once.
Silly, embarrassing story I don't want to share the details It took me 2,5 hours. In the end I swear my RS was 100kg heavier than 3 hours earlier.
Anyway my gearbox is perfectly fine, never had problems with that. When I was pushing my bike I had it in neutral and was holding the clutch. |
