hi guys

cheers for reading my post

well it all started a good time ago.my bike was not starting and died.

after much help from here i changed the regulator rectifier and all the wiring due to it being fried.

the problem has come back again.
here are the current symptoms

bike refusing to start all system primes up but zero activity.
bump started fine so every now and then bike dies(not while riding)if turn off come back and it just wont start.

now the bike doesnt want to bump start at all??
i changed the clutch switch but this seems to make no difference.
last night i charged my spare battery put it in and starter moter was turning over but not starting the engine?strange never had any problems starting before well when starter kicked in.
came back to bike today nothing at all.

im completly lost as to what to do.

could i need a new stator?new starter motor?loose connection in wireing?take it to dealer(god know how to get it there)and prey they done take all my cash!!

any help or ideas is great as i dont want to throw money at stuff as im not flush with cash.

Hi

Could be any number of things. You need to know if it is sparking for a start.

When cranking over does the rev counter move? If so then it suggests it is getting a signal.

Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like the clutch switch prevents the starter from working, but the side stand switch isn't clear. I would guess that it cuts out the ignition. As such I would check that this is working OK.

All the best

Keith

if i understand you correctly you think it may be the side stand?

i am off to the shops to buy a multimeter now but have no idea how to use it.

i cant see that two clutch switchs are bad.im also charging the battery that fired it up and gonna put that back in.

Hi

That it is cranking over suggests the clutch switch is OK. Not firing could be the side stand switch.

However not sure if you are saying that having charged the battery and left it on the bike overnight there are no signs of life (ie, not even a neutral light). If so then that suggests something is shorting to earth and flattening the battery.

All the best

Keith

Hi

If the battery was flat then the lights might be dim and you would probably get a click from the starter relay when you tried. No click suggests the battery isn't the problem.

Basically the starter and ignition are fairly seperate.

The starter just needs to dump a load of power to the starter motor. This comes directly from the battery via the starter relay, and then to the starter motor. The starter relay is basically just a big electrically operated switch. 2 big wires and 2 small wires, with the small wires being there to operate the relay. On the TT600 of the 2 small wires to the relay, one goes to earth via the clutch switch (so to count this out from being the problem you can just disconnect it and short the contacts) while the other comes from the starter button. It also triggers the headlight cutout relay, so if the starter button is working I would expect the headlight to switch off while you try and start the bike.

Ignition wise is a bit more complicated (and the wiring diagram isn't that great). Looks like fuse number 6 feeds power to the coils and to the injectors (brown / pink wire). These appear to be controlled by the ECU (along with controlling the fuel pump, etc). The injection system has a chaptor of the manual to itself!

All the best

Keith

just checked and the light does not go out flash off like it normally does!!

i also unplugged the clutchwire but i think u meant im meant to short this which i didnt!!

so i guess the next move is to get hold of a starter button??

thanks so much for your help these past few days i really lost hope with the bike and as my only mode of transport i was panicing loads!!
you have calmed me down loads

Hi

Yes, you need to short out the clutch switch, not just disconnect it. Basically when you pull the clutch it connects up the earth side for the starter relay.

If the headlight isn't turning off then that suggests that the starter button isn't providing any power. With luck just a dirty contact in the switch.

All the best

Keith
