Not posted any pics, so here's some of my little DRZ.

I had a mint ZX6R before this and can honestly say I dont miss it. The bike does need a couple of mods to make it a bit better power wise as some emission restriction has been added in. I've ridden plenty of other SM's now and don't find they offer anything better without significant drawbacks. So if ya like the idea of one then buy one!

Not particularly, 0-60 is about 4.5secs, and it runs out of puff soon after that.

It's a hell of alot of fun whilst doing it though! Mr. Green

On the way, should be up and running in about a month (need to wait for funds to get discs).

The discs may have 'clearance' issues for some routes but I'll be out and slowing you up soon enough! Thumbs Up Mr. Green

I bought an Edge tail tidy of Ebay recently, smartens the back end up nicely, and a bit cheaper than R&G's offering.

Yep, got a few things planned. Got my jets through from America so I'll sort out the 3x3 mod and jetting next weekend, also got my off-road wheels which I need to buy discs for. Also got to remove the PAIR valve and carb solenoid. Have you done this yet and if so noticed much difference?

what are these like on the motorway as i'll have finally saved up enough to get a new bike in a couple of weeks and they look quite fun.

have you not ridden a wr450 or even the 250 sm'd? the wr is way more fun than the drz.. plus the wr's can be converted to yz spec easily! (carb swap)... can swap carbs on the drz too and convert to 'E' spec.. bit quicker.. 'S' spec is quicker than the SM too!

my dream sm is a cr500.. 2t powah!!!

WR has a lot stricter service intervals and requires a hell of a lot more maintenance. 'S' spec DRZ is identical to the SM mechanically apart from wheels and suspension so no idea where you got information it's quicker.Ridden a CRF which is similar and it's quicker, but you have to take in to account the service intervals.

Yep. Sit at an indicate 65-75 comfortably for the engine. For you it's boring and about as un-fun as you could imagine. Pray it doesnt rain as well.

I like them, ridden my dad's DRZ a few times, but it isn't the most exciting single cyl bike to look at or to ride really.

All i want to know is how fast do they go flat out? If it can beat 94mph, which is the tested top speed of the old Yamaha XT350, then i'll have respect for it.

Otherwise pass me a nice Retro XT or Tenere and a pair of TZR wheels, so that i can have proper fun for not alot of cash!

Not really, i use my WR250 for everyday riding to work and weekends for green laning - I change my oil every >1000 km's, which is like every 4-5 weeks. Every other oil change is a filter change too. Bob's your uncle.

Yeah the S and the SM models are the same spec, but the E models are higher spec and quicker. Different carb and cams.

I want a KTM EXC 450 or 525 s/moto'd Twisted Evil

I would say that is quite strict servicing, changing your oil every month! Is that whats been recommended by a dealer/manual?

Yeah i guess that is regular in the world of biking, but for a 4-stroke semi-enduro bike that runs like a 2-stroke its brilliant.

Yeah manual state's every 1000Km's or after every race.

Should of mentioned the valve clearences need checking too, but mine haven't been done for 10-11 months so its not a regular thing.

I used to change my DRZ oil about every 1000-1500 km's too, so what im trying to say is that there isnt much difference between the WR and the DRZ in terms of a maintainence schedule. Also the bikes hold ~1.3L of oil anyway, so they can be drained out in less then 3 minutes.

Its not as often as you think. Its about every 15-20hrs on the road which is a fair while. Doesn't sound like a lot until you actually start riding it then 15hrs of road use is a fair bit.

Unlike the DRZ its a lot lighter when ya inevitably drop it, sounds so much better (they are actually louder with the stock can than with aftermarket items).

A lot more intimidating can't just not give a sh1t like the DRZ. Takes more commitment to ride but the rewards are so much higher.

When ya pull up at your local meet everyone stops an looks. Sports bike people have come up an said that looks like a hooligan tool. Whats it like to ride? etc. Some have said things along the lines of "you must be fookin nuts to ride that thing." Hardley movingson people hate it along with the TRF. Apparently its too crazy an too loud an all that.

Attracts much more attention than the R6. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

This was my first bike before my zx6r. More fun than the zx6r in alot of ways tbh. Not so good on the motorway though. I fitted an edge tail light on mine.

I use my DRZ as my daily transport.

You know anybody who does that with a CRF? I ride with people on various bikes and see the benefits and drawbacks for various options. For me the DRZ is the best out there atm.

Trying to find out what the service intervals are like on the new BETA bikes (with their own engine) and give them a year or two to see what reliability is like then may go for one of them. Though the RMZ450X is meant to have long service intervals (almost DRZ) so may look in to those as well, most likely the same as the RMZ though so probably not.

have had an s and a e model sold the s to a mate then had a e and the 'e' use to walk allover the 's' the difference was so unbeleivable. the s was a'stock' bike pulled an indicated 100 on knoblies and offroad sprockets and just ate the S of the line and everywhere i couldnt beleive the difference . plastic tank is one also i think between the s and e
