Sounds normal tbh, i dont have a ybr but i imagine alot of bikes are the same. I usually leave mine with the choke on while i go inside and get my lid, gloves and college stuff sorted (usually about 5 mins) then the bike runs great. when i dont leave it as long to warm up it tends to run rough, its just one of the 'perks' of our lovely british weather

thats the prob though I can't leave the bike to idle because it won't - it just dies after half a minute and needs restarting.
Just had an odd thing hppen tho - just been in the garage to hook the battery up to the trickle charger for the night. I thought I'd start it, it ticked over and then died. I hit the starter and nowt. I tested the battery on the multimeter (after moving the widgets next to the battery around a bit) & hit the starter again. There was some crackling from the widget on the right hand side of the battery then the starter kicked in and she ticked over normally without dying.......(?????)
What is this widget thingy? It has the main live feed from the battery going into some form of cylinder looking thingy - sorry for getting technical

Ah right, i must've read your first post wrong
Suppose it would help if we knew what a widget was But if you say there's crackling of some sort, there could well be some bad connections/earths in there somewhere. The 'cylinder shaped thingy' sounds to me like the starter motor, which would make sense that there's a live feed going to it.
Other than that I'm not sure, although I'm still only learning like yourself, although I may be a little further on with the technical jargon . But there are a few ybr owners on here that should be able to help you out.
Is the bike left outside in our lovely weather? If it is, it could be damp electrics, makes my bike a bitch to start sometimes!
hope I've helped in some kind of way and you get it all sorted.

Interesting. Maybe your idle speed is set too low, there's a screw on the carb that you adjust (check the owner's manual I think it's discussed in there). With choke on in this cold weather, mine starts pretty much first time and will idle at around 2.5-3k RPM, gradually increasing to around 4k RPM after about 3-4 minutes which is when I turn the choke off and it'll idle at around 1.1-1.2k RPM just fine. Might occasionally stall when I pull up to junctions at first but it takes longer to fully warm up so I'd expect that.
Other than that, it could be that your spark plug is bad. I fitted an iridium plug to mine which I'm pretty sure helps it a lot with cold starts. Or, there may be a fuel starvation issue which can take a fair bit of investigating (fuel tank/cap/fuel filter/air filter/carb could all be the culprit).
