Reasons to ride

When I decided that i was going to get a bike, my wife and family kept asking why. And kept on going about how dangerous it is.
I replied by saying its the thrill of being on the bike, Its also about the costs over the car, but they still dont get it. Anyone got some decent ammo i can fire back with??

Say to her, "Why do you like going out shopping in town?" to which her reply will be something along the lines of, "Because I enjoy it" at which point you say, "Exxxxxxxxxaccctly" then jump on your bike and howl off.

Just tell them that they will never understand till they put on their own kit, fire up their own bike and go for a ride in the countryside with their mates.

Is it because your under the thumb and you would really like a divorce but you can't because suggesting it would get you a battering by the sounds of it. So you getting a bike was an attempt to get away from the missus and the added danger of dieing is another option of leaving her rather than a divorce.
Saying that to her is only going to make it worse though. My excuse was just because I wanted one, for the adrenaline and the fun it brings compared to other modes of transport.

To be honust its an argument I've had with my family and girlfriend a fair few times and unless they have ever rode a bike and understand why you ride one they will never understand.

Bikes are;
more dangerous,
not quite as cheap to run as we like to make out,
harder to control,
less practical,
unable to carry much, and what you do carry has to be planned,
you get wet, cold and hot and sweaty compared to in a car,
you have more "oh sh1t!!!" moments,
you have more fear of it being stolen,
you have to be careful where you park it incase it falls/blows over,
you have to learn to read the road for grip and uneveness,
you cant take it everywhere you could take a car,
you have to maintain it more than a car,
things like tyres are more expensive than cars,

but they make up for all this in the fact they are effing cool, and make you cool by proxy.

Why don't you persuade her to go pillion on the back of yours for a little ride around and see if she changes her mind? Most people I know who are shit scared of bikes, once you've had them on the back for 30 mins, they love it.

What i keep saying aswell is that my grandad had a bike my old man had a bike so i should have a bike because its in the blood. I cant be having a mid life crisis because im only 25

Bikes are impractical and cost far too much for the use they get unless your a courier or some shit. Also it hurts if you fall O/off.

My reasons to ride:

Theres not many things I can do in everyday life that give me anywhere near as big a thrill that riding does. (im talking easily accesible and not ridiculously expensive)

I dont get the horrendous 'rage' feeling that I do everytime I go anywhere in the cage

Riding fast makes my penis feel bigger

Small children and animals run in terror when I pass by

Old people and 'stuck up' people look at me like I just raped a donkey

Its escapism - man vs machine. Nothing else matters for an hour or 2.

If your wife dont like it then tell her its tough titties. Lifes too short not to persue your dreams.
