Here is my KTM250EXC I bought it as a non-runner (currently getting the motor rebuilt, so this is pre-strip) .... {excuse ghey montage type pic I just made Embarassed}

https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=70310

I am getting all excited as the motor should be back from the engine place at some point next week, so next weekend I might get to have a go on the girl!! Thumbs Up

... anticipating that sickly smell of 2-stroke already!! Very Happy

I have been doing lots of other 'fix it' whilst the motor has been away ... list so far (in no particular order):-

1. Front wheel bearings
2. Fork Seals
3. Speedo sensor (£65 to buy, so made one from a maplins reed valve, some alli tube ( cut off a sprayer pot I had) and some eBay magnets) - cost ~£4 Very Happy
4. headlight
5. Front Brake switch installation
6. Rear bulb
7. Properly fitted numberplate and attached a reflector (ready for Mr MOT
8. New front brake leaver

I have tested the rear brake switch and I believe it is faulty, so presuming I'll need to fix that ... but going to wait until I have the motor running (power) and test it in action before doing so.

But apart from that, I think it is a case of slot the motor in (when I get it) top it up with fluids, get it down the MOT place, then teh tax office on the way home and jobs a gooden ...

Added it to my insurance today (did it today so I have the new documents through in time ready for a quick nip to Mr Tax) ... cost and extra £36 ... gutted!! Sad

Nice one Thumbs Up

The petty tank looks extra big !

You gunna have to compare it with the WR250 once its ridable.

If i didnt have to use my WR to get to work everyday, i would exchange it in for a ktm exc 250/300 - 2 Stroke of course Twisted Evil

Only 5-6 miles and its all city/town riding, no dual carrigeways/motorways ect.

I love riding it to work, i love riding it all together Very Happy

Although i would prefer a seperate bike for going to work. As it does get a bit of abuse through : the muddy/rocky/underwater green lanes, then used for work everyday. I try to keep on top of looking after it, but its hard work.

With a bike that is screeming its nuts off in top at 40mph, its a good job you never get out of a 30zone!! Wink

Them tyres are not going to like all that tarmac either Sad

Which tyres do you use?

Haha yea right, there is a 40 zone on the way in though. And if your screaming in top at 40, your gearing must be way too close.

I used to use Pirelli Mt43's which are trials tyres, but the new one i had fitted is a Pirelli Mt21 which is a knobbly. Front is a michelin ac10, but fronts last much longer anyway.

The standard gearing ... I tried putting 1t larger on the front, but it made 1st too tall ....

One of my intial/first gripes with the WR was the stupid gear ratios (1st too tall, 5th too low (and no 6th!)).

That is yet to be determined .... I also get the feeling it is going to be VERY fickle and keep causing me troubles like it has even before riding it!! Mad

If it all works, then I was thinking of doing an enduro on it!! Thumbs Up

Yep ... I could have bought a good/fully working 2003 (or perhaps slightly younger still) for that* Sad

I need to buy a new rear wheel too at some point ... and they seem to go for silly money, so might have to add about another £200 to that yet too!! Crying or Very sad

*basically I have no qualms spending £1600 on something I enjoy, but I hate spending £1600 on something that at the end of the day is only worth ~2/3 of that. As a self confessed tight-wad and sensible/boring person, that really upsets me to pay over the odds!! ... especially adding to that the 'hassle factor' too!! Sad

That's cost you a fortune! Hope you like it!!! Come racing with me!!! hehe.. Can't wait to race the 426 this year!

p.s whilst it might not be great for trail riding, don't get put off it before you try racing it.... then it'll come into its element.

Completely agree. Same with my CRF-R too much on the roads if i'm honest (although beating that gsx-r 7 down to the cafe was absolutely awesome) but take it on the track and it comes into its own.

If you want to borrow a wheel in the short term, give me a shout - I've got at least one spare set as well as those on my 200. Have to play about with carriers a bit to mix and match though.
My 200s going to be out of action for a while longer - but just due to lack of money to fix damage rather than needing serious work Sad.

Cheers Thumbs Up Karma

The wheel that is on there is fine at the mo, but has damage to the bearing recess ... basically when the bearing goes, I won't be able to get it out to replace it!! Crying or Very sad

It lives!!! Cool

Sorry for pap quality vid, but I only got the motor at ~5pm, so it was dark by the time I had it in and running (and it was only taken on my mobile).

What a beautiful sound!! Cool

Bloody bike {grumble grumble} ... Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad

Rolled up to the MOT place today and bumped into boundy ... who was buying a chain for his bike ....

Anyhoo, boundy pointed out that my rear tyre didn't have a CE/DOT stamp on it ... feck .... feck .... FECK!!!

So I went in and bought a new tyre (and a front sprocket) - another £52 this bike has cost me before even using it! Sad) ... dashed home and spent the next 1.5hrs swearing and sweating!! Very Happy

To add insult to injury, the rim-lock sheered when I was trying to undo it I hate this KTM ... Evil or Very Mad

Still, it is back at the MOT place now with its new rear tyre (no rim-lock) ... so it is in the hands of the gods (Mr MOT) now .... (being failed on something costly right now no doubt!! Rolling Eyes)
