My WR has a Dunlop D606 130/90-18 on the rear ... I actually quite like it ... seems hard wearing, might not be the MOST grippy tyre out there, but it does the trick for the sort of riding I do ... and I have either been REALLY lucky (puncture wise) or it has a caucus made of sheet metal!! Cool

But I'll be bu66ered if I can find a replacement listed (in the UK) ....

Have the D606s been superseded now or are they an America only market job???

'elp!! Thumbs Up

have a look for a geomax or a 908 Thumbs Up think they are what superseeded them.

Even if not its what most of my mates run on their enduro's Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

If you can't find a replacement, the Mitas CO2 is cheap (£42ish), road legal, very hard wearing, and very grippy - I run one on the rear, as does Svenn and Tatters I believe, as well a couple of other mates. Haven't heard bad feedback yet.

Mitas Co2 is a very good tyre for what we ride on, l had 1,500-2,000 miles from mine before it lost offroad traction.

I think I was put off by the puncture you got ....

I am not saying the D606's are impervious, your tyre that had only been on 30s seemed pretty easy to puncture (or you were simply VERY unlucky/I have been very LUCKY).

I guess a nail is a nail, but my tyres actually feel hard ... there is very little flex in the carcass, even at low pressure ...

Done a quick bit of googling, looks like the geomax is an MX tyre is that right??? (needs to be road legal for my trail bike).

Maxxis are hard wearing and have a more mx style pattern .. but road legal... they also cost about £45 fitted.
Me and Philo run heavy duty tubes and have not had a puncture in 2 years ... I dont think its down to the tyres is it ?? ie: if a nail punctures one tyre, what about another tyre will stop that ?
Its down to the right pressures , rim locks, and heavy duty tubes. (imho)

Clearly there is an element of simple dumb 'luck' when it comes to punctures ... if you hit a nail at just the right (well wrong) angle then I am not sure any tyre will prevent it going in ... but also, if you have a really flexible carcass, chances are that the steel banding and rubber density is less than on a 'harder' tyre I should imagine?? this must make the number of 'potential' punctures greater than a harder tyre?!?!! Thinking

I might get some Maxxis tyres as there is a place in Eastleigh that is supposed to do a pair for ~£80 fitted to a bike ... Thinking ... that was hearsay, so I'll make a phonecall tomorrow!! Wink

Still think I have a more rides out of the sorry looking ones I have on there now first mind!! Very Happy

No tyre would of stopped a 4" nail, though running low pressure on the rear is what bent the rim.

reminds me that l need to get rid of the CRM on ebay.

I strongly believe that the tyre make very little difference.
Its all in the tube and how you 'run' the tyre.

Maxxis come recommended by me for cheap but good tyres. Thumbs Up
I tried the expensive Michelin Comp III (£75 a tyre fitted) last year.
Noticed f*ck all difference in handling (given that I am not David Knight) but did watch them rapidly wear out as my brain went "thats another £150 all round soon then". Thumbs Down

Cheap tyres plus heavy duty inner tube will make you ride like a legend and have women flocking at your door. Its a medical fact!

Ah! you want the real heavy stuff huh ! say no more Wink Wink

To be honest I dont have a clue ... mine came fitted already.
I would ask the people at the shop fitting the tyres ... they should know.
You can feel the difference between a normal tube and hd ones .. much thicker obviously.

but as we were saying before, if you get a nail that is going to go through a tyre ... NOTHING is going to stop you gettin puncture Sad

Or is the idea that you can leave the nail in there out and just keep pumping it up a bit like a tubeless?? Thinking
