used both for different insurance purposes.

bennetts for the bike, swinton for home insurance.

i'd go bennetts simply as swinton bombard you with junk mail even though you ask for none.

never made a claim with either so i can't say if either are any good

I'd say avoid Bennets. Apparently they are crap when it comes to claims, but when I tried to cancel my policy it took them ages to give me the refund.

Bennets i would also avoid as i've only ever heard bad things about them.

Swinton AFAIK aren't amazing, but based on what i've heard of them (quite a bit) Bennetts are at the bottom of the steaming pile of crap/rip-off insurers.

Swinton quoted £105 tpft for my bike. One quick phone call and it went down to £75 with free legal cover so it's definately worth giving them a call to haggle. I've not been bombarded with junk mail so far and this is my second year with them. I can't comment on how good they are when it comes to claiming as I haven't had to yet.

I avoid swindleton (swinton) at all costs these days after they shafted me over my car insurance last year. I got an online quote was a good price so took the policy, then when docs came through they'd get two letters in reg wrong so I called them to correct it and they wanted to charge me an extra £70! So told them to shove it and I'd cancel my policy ( not had the insurance more than 5 days) and for the priviledge of paying them £150 cunts!

I laugh when people slag Bennetts off because all insurance companies are exactly the same. They want your money, they don't want to give any of it back and they'll do anything they can to keep it that way.

I had murder with the guy on the phone and then me and the b/f went to the shop and had murder with the manager he said we could take it up to try and get a refund but I'd still have to pay the cancelation fee. I was told that esentially it was my fault for using an Internet comparison site. They have just done something simillar to a friend of a friend who went through a comparison site but they paid the fix fee as they couldn't afford the cancelation fee.
If I could have been fully bothered I should have taken it further but I couldn't be bothered with the hastle so now I just try and warn people off them.
I use admiral for the cars and motorcycle direct for the bike.

Had my GPZ insured with Bennetts, and although I didn't have any occasion to make a claim, the breakdown cover that was included was VERY good.

Im with Swinton, i get free recovery and some other stuff that i dont know about.

1991 zxr400 valued at £1700, garaged, 1st bike since the 125, 1 year no claims.

F/C @ 300 a year.

I even used the recovery a week after i took out the policy cos i had a puncture.

Give simply insurance a try. They're blinding for me.
My renewal;
23y/o, 2 claims to declare, 2 years no claims
k5 gsxr 600, all mods declared (exhaust system/PC3/odds n sods) for £260 comprehensive.
Where going through every other company was like £800-£1200.

Some of the guys phoning me up with "specialist insurance companies" must have thought I was lying, as after asking me what my best quote was (£260) then telling me they'd pulled up £850.
me- think i'll pass on that
them- do you want to take the referance in case you change your mind?
me- I doubt I'll turn stupid and decide paying £600 more is a good idea. So no, thanks.
