Got some pics of the damage the chain did to my crankcase, its basically sheared off 2 mounting points, one for the water pump, and one for the sprocket guard.

As im not having any luck finding a s/h engine or crankcase, my dad reckons he can 'build it up with aluminium weld and tap a thread in' possibly, does it look like this can be done? i believe i will need to take the crankcase out, becuase i can't do it while its in the bike, as it will destroy the seals etc.

Does anyone think this can be done, ive tried findapart, but havent had one phone call.

Any replies appreciated

thanks

It may be possible, it depends on what type of alloy it is. When I took my holed magnesium alloy crankcase cover in to have some crap screws removed I asked the bloke to try and weld it, he did but it didn't work.

Hi

The sprocket cover one should be OK. Not vast amounts of stress and will not matter too much if it is not quite perfect.

The water pump mount might be more of a problem. Get it wrong and the pump will probably leak, or wear rapidly.

All the best

Keith

Only thing to remember is the weald comes out at 2600 degrees so any gaskets withing about 3 inches will die and will need replacing.
