To start off, it's my brothers bike. I've never worked on a bike before and not really done anything mechanical - I don't have my full licence yet, but I'm booked in for my training to start on the 3rd of April If all goes well, I'm going for a week touring in Scotland with my girlfriend, I can't wait! Anyway.... back to the bike.
My brother is going to let me use his bike, so I thought it would be a good idea to start it up and see what it was like. Went out and it wouldn't start - flat battery. Charged it and it fired up fine, but it sounded absolutely terrible.

After poking around looking for air leaking from the downpipes, I didn't find much, but thought that the gaskets were worn or not fitted at all... Removed the downpipes after scraping my knuckles about 50 times and while cleaning them I found a little hole

Decided that it would be cheaper to get it welded, so the next day I set about removing all the rust, which revealed some nasty holes.

Obviously that couldn't be welded, so I managed to convince my brother to buy a new set of stainless steel downpipes, which will hopefully be here tomorrow!
Today I set myself the task of cleaning the chain, it was covered in muck and filth from the roads! I gave it a good spray with WD40 and scrubbed away with a toothbrush! After wiping it clean and spraying it with lubricant it looked much cleaner and healthier.

I decided to give the bike a was as well, so before I did I stuffed the headers with kitchen roll to try and stop any dust or water getting in.

I was careful not to get any water near the headers, gave the bike a good was and it looked a little more respectful afterwords!

I'm not a fan of the "Direct Air Induction" stickers, going to say to my brother if I can remove them
Things to do:
1. New battery
2. Fit new downpipes and attach exhaust can
3. New gaskets
4. Oil change and new filter, perhaps new plugs too
5. Refit all fairings
6. Fit and buy luggage
6. Hopefully... ride it ____________________ My Project - Honda CBR 600 F2/FM

you can probably straighten the fins if you're careful, dont go near it with the jet wash as the water will mess it right up, as i found out to my expense at the polish car wash the other day, took my eye off them for 2 secs and he has the pressure washer right up on the rad' cleaning it for me |
