These things crash suprrisingly well
I was commuting through London and was going for a gap between a truck and a van, the van started moving over (closing the gap) and I backed off, by this point I was about half way up the side of the truck and a 1/4 of the way up the van, the truck had fabric sides and they must have been blown in because as the truck accelaratedthe back of it smashed into my mirror and lobbed the bars one way and I went down. All I was thinking 'don't run over my head!' Got up and traffic had stopped, no one got out to help mind so I picked the bike up and pulled it onto the pavement.
Damage,
RHS Mirror gone (not the one the truck hit!) and a stract to the left hand side panel. screen has also been ripped out, quite good considering.
The shitter is the panel had been resprayed 9 months ago and the mirror was about 2 weeks old!
I still can't work out how the mirror and the screen broke. It hit the left side mirror then the bike went down on the left, the top fairing hasn't been touched yet the screen is ripped out and the rhs mirror broke but it went down on the left.
Sorry for the blurry pics I was still abit shakey

The funniest part was after I picked the bike up all I could hear was 2 lanes of heavy London Traffic driving over parts of my bike, it sounded like rice crispies. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

Did you land on top of your bike? That could have been what broke the mirror and screen. Glad to hear you're ok and the bike is mostly alright ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.

Not really, he only moved very slightly and slowly so I backed off as I said he wasn't moving fast enough to worry me just fast enough to make me re think the pass. As I slowed the truck speed up and I think the wind might have been blowing the side of the lorry in (had curtains) so I though I had a couple of inches more on that side. if the bike would have been 1-2 inches further right I would have been fine. Bad judgement on my part.
Also I forogt to so big thank you to scooterist who slowed down then pissed off quickly and came back with the lorry reg Well played would have been a lifesaver if it was the trucks fault ____________________ Well, you know what they say. Glad you're still with us Chris and that it was just the bike that got damaged.
I admire your candor and since breaking my foot in a similar accident over two years ago, filtering is a move I now contemplate with great care. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

Not my day, see the second picture and the railings next to the vespa is another railing half the height of the other one, at a 90deg angle to it. I reversed my bike out of that space and that railing went between my swinger and my exhaust and cracked my exhaust hanger. Thats another £15 ____________________ Well, you know what they say. Where'd you do that then?
I was perving on a very similar looking TDM only yesterday or the day before.
And yeah, I hate that "don't run over my head" thing, it's the single most terrifying thing about riding in London. I've had my foot run over several times, but whenever I fall off, I'm terrified of where my head is in relation to all the other traffic *eeeeeek*
Hope you are alright ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

All back together again. Aside from the scratch on the side panel it's good as new. The Ebay screen I bought was abit pony and and leaves gaps and the screen bolts are abit lairy (they didn't have black had to get silver) Also The replacement mirror from wemoto didn't have the same stem as mine it was smaller but I had a smashed mirror I took the stem from and switched with the new mirror head. I also had to replace my exhaust hanger as I broke it when reversing the bike out of the parking space where the photo was taken It wasn't my day that day. I have done something to the muscles in my upper arm which at it worse the day after I couldn't life my left arm more than a few inches before it hurt, but this has been getting better every day.
Only thing left is repairing the top box one of the lugs is broken
Total bill £90 and a sore arm, it could have been far worse, (could have been my right arm ).

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Picture007.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Picture005.jpg
The hole was suppose to have a lug on the other side holding the box to the rack.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Picture002.jpg
I was thinking bolt a peice of metal going through it to act as a lug drill some holes and use cable ties to cover the hole then use sealant to finish it.
Any Better ideas? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
