Just after a bit of advice really, i will obviously ring the insurance company tomorrow to see what they say.

A few weeks ago my bike was stolent, got the claim in motion and they were fairly quick with starting the payout procedure.

Got a letter from them asking for V5, purchase receipt, settlement figure (bought on finance), keys, sercice history etc etc. One thing they requested was a copy of my license (well, the last person to use the bike before it was stolen).

Now, on the 19th on feb i went to court and got a 6 month ban (for speeding, harsh bastards but we'll leave that for another day) so obviously they kept my license there and then.

What should i say to the insurance company regarding my license? I know it looks dodgey in regards to my bike gets stolen then 2 weeks later i get banned but i can honestly say that i aren't the sort of person to scam an insurance company.

While we are on the topic of licenses, i obviously gave the court usher my photo card and counterpart, the magistrates didn't say anything about me not producing my license but i recently got a letter from DVLA saying that i didn't produce both parts of my license...WTF of course i did. Will give them a buzz tomorrow aswell, useless gits.

You should have told your insurance company when you got banned. Neutral

If you have a copy of the license you had before you surrendered it - send them that!

If you didn't make a copy you are leaving yourself open to DVLA losing your bike entitlements so you should have scanned it anyway.

I know i should but i had a lot of other stuff on my mind at the same time with recently coming out of hospital (2 days before my court appearance!) and a few other stuff.

Geri - I should of made a copy and i kick myself for not doing so. Afterall, the DVLA are known for loosing entitlements.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but any advice on what i should say to them now?

For fucks sake, can you not read?

I'm not the sort of person to try and do an insurance scam. Why would i want to put yet another claim on my insurance (already got a bike claim from june 08 and my car is in the garage being repaired). It would cost me more over the next 5 years then the bike is worth Rolling Eyes

If you haven't got anything useful to add to this thread then fuck off and post elsewhere.

I know Matt, he's really not the type, read the OP first divvy. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I'd explain by email to them Matt, tellin 'em you handed it in (most insurance say they like to be informed of changes on renewal for a start) and maybe you can get a letter from courts proving so?

No. All insurance policies require you to tell them about any changes when they happen. Not telling the insurance company basically gives them a reason to try and invalidate your policy should you need to claim.

Matt, if it'll cost you more than the bike was worth then wouldn't it be better to not claim for it? Confused

You could maybe say that you send them a letter explaining about being banned? It would probably be worth removing the name of the broker and the insurance company from your original post because doing anything other than telling them the truth is an insurance scam.

I suppose i could just tell them that my case was heard in my absence as i was in hospital at the time (they don't know that i came out of hospital 2 days prior) and that i sent my license to the courts with my plea form and financial circumstances. Its only been 5/6 working days since i lost my license so it hasn't really been that long that i have neglected to tell them i have been banned.

I've got the fracture clinic at 9:05am, will give them a ring when i get home.

DO NOT LIE.......

You will then be opening a whole load of problems if they decide to check a bit deeper.....
They will then not payout as they will find you have lied to them.

Add in how much your priemum is already going to be going up for 2 claims and now a ban.... The last thing you need is a black mark for them revoking your insurance as well.

You could try a plea of well as i was banned there should have been less risk of a claim.... Rolling Eyes But clearly that will not wash as it was stolen Sick

right..

your insurance isnt invalid just because you've been banned (afaik) its just you arent allowed to ride it.

yes they may try to weasel out of it as you didnt immediately tell them the condition if your licence but it was stolen before this happened anyway if what you say is correct.

if this is the case at the time of the theft your licence was in order and everything was as the insurance company had on its records.

it 'may' turn into a bit of a ballache but im sure they'll honour it eventually. (if they even do make an issue out of it as, as said, your licence was in order at the time it was stolen)

can't see how being banned would affect your bike being stolen.

i'd just tell them you were banned and you can't provide your license.

not like you crashed whilst riding banned etc

bike was stolen before he was banned so it was still covered at the time...

Good luck hope you can get it sorted - sounds a right mess.

A very good point, so with that in mind I see no reason to not tell the insurance company the whole story truthfully. Smile
