 |
|
So the missus bought me a Bonzai tree for my birthday - well, in actuality she bought me some Bonzai tree seeds but then realised that they take years to grow, so then also bought me a tree.
I understand that they require quite a bit of care and attention, this is fine except that I have no idea how old the one is, whether it needs to be re-potted, whether I should be pruning the leaves and/or the roots etc, so if any one is familiar then some advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,

There were instructions with the seeds which go on to explain some things once they grow from seed to larger plants like the other one pictured, but they are not well written and seem to contradict themselves in places. I have no idea what type of tree is in the pics, I was hoping there might be a closet Bonzai lurking on BCF that would be able to say "Ahh what you have there is a XXXX", a little bit optimistic for BCF I know, but people do surprise you from time to time.

I translated this page
Daylight
Bonsai likes daylight. 2-3 Hours under daylight everyday.
Water
If you give it too much water, the root can't breathe in the soil.
Remember this. And, give it water enough once per day in spring/autumn,
two times per day in summer, 2-3 times per week in winter.
(When you are absent for 2days(in Summer/3days in non Summer),
give it enough water and put it in the shade)
(If it's more than 2(3)days, put it in a saucer with water)
Fertilizer
Just put them on the soil. It's easy.
You must put them in (March to July : for growth) and in (Sept to Nov : for winter)
Don't give them in August, they become a burden to bonsai. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

I'm still killing mine off and I attend Bonsai forums regularly.
Start here
https://www.bonsaigardener.org/
then Google it.
There's any number of forums with people who can help. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

I had 2 nice trees until the cold snap came and fcuked them. I won't be buying any more. When you see the professional stuff on youtube you'll realise all you have is a small shrub in a pot and lose hope anyway. |

Yours looks like a tea tree,

I've had a couple of these and some others but had to get rid as it's bad for feng shui or some such crap.*Feng shui information supplied by the wife* |

I started my three bonsais off a few weeks back ...
... i like the trees better than crappy b n q yukas and such like, but i'm not interested in keeping them in a small pot and obsessing over it looking exactly like a real tree ..
For me the object is to keep them alive and have nice unusual house plants / trees ...
If your like me in that thought than i can tell you the basics and save you a lot of reading ... ____________________ Flip Wrote: You're a bloke, you don't need kids. You need a vehicle, someone to shag, a dog and a shed. AKA Cuntdudes life and ambition ... A ++

I tried to make one from scratch out of a branch of rosemary, cos I thought that would look pretty with the blue flowers and spikey green foliage - but I don't seem to have the oriental patience or artistic nature to make them work. Ended up with a dry old stick in a pot ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Correct! An expert on some bonzai forum was quick to identify it for me. Apparently not the easiest type to take care of and prob not suitable for beginners, but I have it now so guess I'll do the best I can!

Haha, thats what I was counting on. I think the best thing I saw on BCF in this regard is when Itchy was in Mongolia and contracted some explosive diarrhea or something and was wondering how he went about going to hospital, where to find it etc. Within a few hours Stinkwheel had been in touch with a friend who lived in mongolia for a while and gave him the lowdown on where to go, what to expect to pay etc etc. I thought it was rather excellent that a BCF'er on the other side of the world could still help out in times of need

Yeah I don;t think I'm gonna get all oriental on it's ass, I'm thinking I might just re-pot it and let it carry on as it wants to be fair an see how that goes.....

I had one a few years ago but didn't have the time of knowledge to look after it. I quite fancy another one I was looking at plants yesterday.
Found this and after a quick google found it else where for cheaper with better choices of plants. Got it for my mother for mothers day I got the sunflower one.
Also I quite fancy this for myself. ____________________ Current: Honda Nsr 125

Ooo, they are fun.
I like to put a pen in them, flick their little spikes and make them close prematurely.
heh

Just noticed your photos on the OP there, Ghostrider.
How BIG is that motherfucker? (trying to judge the distance/size of that can of Cadburys hot chocolate, the size of which I am well aquainted with, LOL ... but can't quite get a handle on how big the bonsai is?)
It looks ginormous, in which case she's spent a fortune on your birthday present ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

I dont think the hot choc tin is good for use as a scale, I pretty much zoomed in on the tree, the tin of choc is a fair bit back.
I'll take another one tonight next to something more scale-worthy, it is pretty big though even I noticed that.
