Honda x8r intake manifold

Tube coming off the intake manifold to a sealed black plastic box.

What is this for? Ped won't idle unless I remove the tube to breath fresh air and it then revs quite high.

air/fuel mix screw is fully in for some reason
spark plug is perfect colour
idle screw is fully in.

Dies as soon as I cover this tube. It is quite a big 10mm ID rubber tube.

tube to black platstic box is air filter

pilot screw should not be fully in, this will cut off the fuel basically with just air. Resulting in a lean mixture.

screw this out by 2 - 3 turns from stop

Leave the tube off and start bike .

If it runs then the mixture was buggered and the air filter is blocked or filter needs replacing.

It may run very high idle as the screw is right in! Adjust the idle screw out till it ticks over nicely.

Tune the pilot screw until you can achieve the highest rpm then back out 1/2 a turn, then adjust idle screw until it ticks over ok.

Not the air filter. A separate rubber tube comes from the manifold to a completely sealed small black box on top of the air filter. It is confusing.

on some hondas I have seen, its known as a secondary air filter system.

Yes it sounds confusing but did own one of the X8R-X. X being the moto crosser type.

Theres an S version just for info as the Sports model

Without the pipe it's sucking in more air between the carb and the head, like an air leak on the rubber, so will make it race.
