Hi just began to do valve clearances for the first time on this bike and on taking off pulse generator casing found a small amount of oil in there. Anyone have any ideas how its got in ?

I dont know.There is nothing in the manual about it, I am presuming it should not be. Im thinking electricals and oil in the same place does not seem right .First time Ive tried doing valve clearances.

Its a Suzuki bandit 1200. If oil is meant to be there I dont understand why? It is only a small amount, about 50ml.

quite normal for oil to be there.

oil is non conductive and helps with cooling.

I don't think it should be in there, but it won't do any harm so long as it's not leaking out of the loom. If there are no through-holes into the guts of the engine to drain it away the it shouldn't be there really.

EDIT: Looking at the fiche there seems to be a square hole into the main engine gallery so yes, there would be oil in there.

Thanks for all the responses.Bike has been running a bit poorly, so I think I will finish doing the other checks and see.

Don't bother,there is no seal, the oil should be there.
