FZR600 chain/tyres?

Anyone know what pitch/links the chain is on a 1989 FZR600 Genesis 3HE model.

Its one of the last things I need, along with an MOT and tax!

All in all been a quick, cheap and fun project! Just want to able to ride it out of the garden now!

also a quick one, I ordered a rear wheel from egay as the original was...broken to say the least Laughing

Stock tyre is like 140/70-18 but one i recieved has a 160/60/18 on it, not alot of tread so its coming off anyway, but is it safe to buy that size and pop it on again?

Obviously it fits, but if its pointless i'll stick to the smaller rubber Thumbs Up

Check the side of the links that are on it for a number like 525.

The stock tyre should be cheaper.

Chain should be a 530, 160 links.

Chain is a 530 with 106 links.

As to the tyre, depends what size the wheel is. Early bikes had a (from memory) 3.5" rim while the later ones had a 4" rim. 150 is about right for a 4" rim (140 tyre is stock, 150 a slightly over size fitment), but would probably be far too oversize for the narrower early rim (stock tyre for an early rim was a 130).

However it is difficult to find a 150/60 18 ZR rated rear tyre.

Not sure I would like to try a 120 on the front. It is a 3" front rim.

By the way, suspect if you did use a 160 on the rear then there might well be clearance problems. Clearance between the chain and a 150/60 BT010 on my FZR600 was less than 5mm.

ah ok, cant you usually go up a size without hassle?
thats why i thought a 120 would fit.

well worst comes to it, i'll buy them individually.
is a 150/60-18 a nice fit on the rear?

Hi

The size of tyre you can get away with is pretty much down to the rim width. Most of the time the makers don't run that close to the max you an get away with. But use too wide a tyre and it will be badly distorted and probably result in it handling like a pig.

If you have the 4" rim a 150/60 will fit fine. Although as far as I know the only ZR rated rear tyre in that size is the BT014.

Bike has a top speed a touch over 140mph. H rated tyres are only good for 130mph (and don't know of any V rated tyres in the right size).

Legally you are probably OK using H rated tyres in the UK, although our insurance company might take a dim view of it. Think in Germany it is illegal to have tyres with a speed rating not suitable for the max speed of the bike.

ouch.. im not likely to hit anything over 75...maybe 80.
already tempted fate, 8 crashes, 3 points...not really up for top end racing anymore..
