On a normal car licence?
I will never need a trailer.
I think I may of heard by rumour that I could long a while back if I removed/altered the parts that are required by a trailer like 5th wheel.
Does anyone know?

I have a class1 license
as far as I remember it has nothing to do with the actual weight of the thing, it is to do with the Gross Vehicle Weight at which it is plated (this may be possible to "recategorise" but I don't know)
since that is a tractor unit, my guess is that it would be plated at 42 tons is it now? (used to be 38) train weight and not plated at all for solo
You cannot do a class1 license anymore, you have to do class 2 first and then do the class 1
to drive that would cost you a couple of grand in training and tests, to buy it would cost you (guess) £75k - no-one will lease you one without an operators license
all in all
stupid idea ____________________ 187.3bhp = 201mph |

technically they aren't any more
the most you can drive on an old car license is 7.5 tons now I think you need to pass a test to drive anything between 3.5 and 7.5tons
let me be clear this does not mean that the vehicle weighs 7.5 tons - it means that the maximum it is allowed to weigh is 7.5 tons - this is riveted to a plate just inside the passenger door
taking it to a weighbridge will make no difference
in this case a unit like that will be plated at 42 tons I think - whether or not it ACTUALLY weighs less than 7.5 tons is immaterial it is the plated weight which governs which type of license you need to drive it
I don't know but I guess it is possible to replate with the kind of mods described but that thing will probably have 16 or more gears and they are dreadful to drive with no trailer anyway, if it is possible to drive without training by replating then it bloody well shouldn't be imho
and they cost a bloody fortune to buy
and like I said no-one will lease you or rent you one without an operators license and if you wanted to rent then you couldn't modify
the list of reasons not to is a big one
like I said stupid idea
and btw if a post ends with a it's generally accepted to be pretty much tongue in cheek

Is the type of thing I had in mind, not exactly something you would suspect is drivable without some form of HGV certification, but nonetheless ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |
