I'm considering buying an FZR400RR 3TJ and was just wondering if anyone with experience of them can let me know if there's anything I need to look out for?

It has a rattle from the EXUP valve at tickover apparently, not sure if it's only from cold or not but I understand that isn't uncommon with these.

Has it just got a very flat power delivery then? I seem to recall having a shot on a mate's one about 12 years ago but annoyingly I can't remember what it was like, maybe that's why Laughing

I wonder if that's to do with the EXUP smoothing out the torque curve? I'll see if I can get it quite cheap, I won't buy it if it gets to CBR/VFR 400 money.

if only u were nearer to me, im planning to sell my rvf soon, i'd go for either a zxr or a honda 400, they'l be in slightly better condition, not as rare and more sporty/fun.

More expensive though. I'm looking for something well under a grand and the FZRs just aren't as popular.

I have one, the suspension is very soft as standard and even worse when knackered. It will ruin what is a pretty good handling bike unless you sort it really.
I fitted a rebuilt shock from an RRSP and it actually made the rear about 3" higher as the old shock was sagging so much and this was on a 16,000 mile bike.

The engine is a little characterless and it sounds a bit whiny at high revs, But its very predictable, you can pretty much just crack the throttle open coming out of a corner and it will just pick up and go, none of this carefully feeding the power on that you have to do on bikes with peaky power deliveries Smile
Although saying that the guy who had mine before me managed to highside it so it can't be that foolproof.

They are apparently a bit of a time bomb if you rev them too much.

I've had mine for 3.5yrs now done touring, trackdays, commuting and the only thing other then servicing and consumables I've had to get was a reg/rec at 21k.

As a guide I paid £1600 for mine in 2006, if had a few scuffs and no history, plus a string of teenage owners but was generally in ok condition.

Have you had a look in the FZR section of 400gb.

Cool

I really like the look of them, same with all the 400s of that era for some reason.

I'll have a look on 400gb, I already put a wanted ad up on there.
