How you doin everyone?

So i just got 2001 Gilera Cougar 125cc and as a result of being slightly over excited i forgot how to operate choke lever on it.I believe that when the lever is up facing forward its on and off when pushed down.Is there anyone who could reassure me on this?

Secondly it annoys me when it cuts off every time i let it go idle.Any suggestions on that...should I start by cleaning the carburetor or is it consequence of the above (wrongly set choke)....

cheers

what you need to do is get a carb off a Honda CG125.

they use the City Fly motor which pretty much a CG with different gear ratios.

the carbs used are pretty cack, soon as you stick that carb on you'll be fine.

also keep an eye out for no power when you throttle, this is due to the needle getting ground down by the retaining W clip and dropping it into the hole and just doing nothing at all but have a rough tick over.

also keep the spokes adjusted properly as the hub can wobble and make you crash into a hedge if not looked at.

the problem is though, when you do adjust it, it will eventually make little difference as it will eventually not want to tighten anymore.

The cougar carb is fine as it is, yes, up is choke on, down is off.
As for not ticking over, you say you have turned the tick-over screw in and it do nothing.... is the slide in the right way round, has been known!
Where are you?

...cleaned the carb now and its certainly in need of proper adjustment, which gives me a little bit of a headache.I played with the idle screw but after changing the spark plug i have noticed that the engine is running way too rich. Im am not sure how to adjust it properly to make air/fuel mixture correct, which i believe would solve the problem.

Secondly after refitting the carburettor I found that there is no spring on pilot screw which seems to be present on every type of carb on this type of engine (Honda CG) .Guessing its missing and will possibly need to get hold of one then. However im not sure about this as engine manual is for Honda CG not Gilera Cougar.

Hence the important question: do all pilot screw have springs???

What info do you need on the engine?
I have a paper copy of the manual, can scan, pm me if interested, also yes there should be a spring.
