I'd of posted this in the southern forum but I don't have access and don't see the point for just 1 thread!

I'll be visiting my sister (she's happily married...) who has just moved to West Norwood on the weekend of the 26th of this month. I'll be riding my bike down (from North Wales) on the Friday and have never ridden in London before let alone a proper massive city.

I was hoping if anyone from down there was free that I could meet someone on the outskirts of London sometime in the early afternoon and basically just follow you to my sisters place?

I'd love to go and have a look at the Ace Cafe as well and my sister will be working during the day so I'll have until about 6pm to do all the London bikey things.

I can pay via cups of tea/coffee at the Ace (after I've recovered from London prices, I'm used to country bumpkin type places!) and could get some pictures of your bike if you want? Last bike pictures I took (Sorry, can't bring the trees with me Sad): https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=192701

If my bike is on the road by then, which is unlikely, I can help you out, West Norwood is about 5 minutes ride from me in light traffic.

However, it's also a piece of piss to get to. I assume you'll be coming down the M4, so take the M25 anti clockwise down to the A23, then head up it til you get to Streatham Common. A combination of signs and google streetview will identify it for you if you don't have GPS. Turn right there and she's only half a mile in.

All of south London is general purpose suburban sprawl, it isn't the evil city traffic you're probably expecting. Even central isn't at all bad, central Croydon at rush hour is far worse than central London. Congestion charge did good there.

If the bike is the road I'll come along, would like to get some pics of it at the ace. You'll find some proper nasty London traffic riding from your sister's place to the ace, but you can go through central and see the sights from bike.

West Norwood is a beautiful part of the world. Be sure to pop along to Croydon too, very idyllic and picturesque.

On a completely unrelated note, how are you with a knife, both with and against?

She's in Herne Hill at the moment and it all looks exactly the same to me, just rows and rows of streets with no differentiating features, took me a while to get used to walking from her house to the train station which is about a 5 minute walk so riding around London isn't something I'm particularly looking forward from a navigational point of view (no GPS/sat nav Sad) but I can't say I'm not excited to tackle the big smoke from a general riding perspective!

Here's a tip. Keep the clutch in and dont use neutral, especially at night. Wink

Best tip is to work out a very simple route sticking to major roads. Don't detour from this at all otherwise you will get lost! If you get a diversion to follow (you will) then your fucked! Laughing

Minty, don't be scaring the lad...
Very Happy Very Happy

I know you probably have looked at the map but have you looked at the route using street view?

Get your self close by, (m25, a23 head for streatham) then street view from your sisters using goolemaps, making note of large building of note such as pubs churches, at least that way the route in can be narrowed down and once on track you will have visual signs to look for as you drive along.

One major pointer..(sorry if this puts you off..but it needs saying )
Rolling Eyes
is that the street name signage is pants in most of london, so if your planning on just looking for a street name for guidance as you drive by it, good luck.
Better to be looking for parks, pubs McD etc..much easier to see.

Could do saturday, but not friday.

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=51.275018,-0.155182&daddr=A214%2FCrown+Dale&geocode=%3BFfalEAMdkIX-_w&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=12&sll=51.289406,-0.091667&sspn=0.090393,0.220757&ie=UTF8&z=12

But as you can see its one road. Hit it at the right time and it will take you 30 minutes, and thb its not going to be heavy London traffic at all. Down the M4, M25 towards heathrow the follow until J7 towards London. Then keep going up untill you get to stretham common
