Obviously a combination of the two would be a human shaped wooden box.

If the crosswinds are gusting, you've got no chance.

Actually, you've got no chance anyway with a 100mph cross wind on a bike. Think about how much you get buffeted when sitting up/on a naked bike at 100mph. Now think about that pushing on the big flat side of the bike, rather than the front which is designed to cut through the air.
Not good.

I'd much rather ride in rain than wind.
If it is rainy you can allow for that if you are riding along down a street one minute you may get caught by a gust, then be sheltered by a building and so on. It is more difficult to allow for and predict. So for me rain every time.

I hate wind!

Its bloody annoying when you get blown off course, and bloody darn scary!

Atleast in the rain you can take it easy and wear your waterproofs!
And tyre technology these days gives even better wet grip. Smile

I never thought about it like that before I got my bandit upto 125mph last night and had to slow down but if that wind was hitting the side I would of been fecked

Rind.

rain forces you to slow down and can drop visability. you can see the conditions are bad. wind however being invisible hits you from no where and can knock you accross the road.

Neither of them are good to ride in, but at least rain you know what you're dealing with, and wind you only know when you get blown by a big gust and have to sort it out. Yes rain does reduce visability and grip, but everyone knows this an most allow for it, or if they don't are aware of what the risk is. Wind changes from second to second and you can't predict really how much it's going to change.

I say wind is the worst, as rain can be dealt with much more easily.

Hi

Rain is not that bad normally. Doesn't bother me too much if I have decent waterproofs on. Wind can be a nightmare. On the Cagiva Freccia I have gone to change one lane on the M62 and landed up getting blown across 2 lanes. Been blown onto the hard shoulder on the 1200 Bandit as well.

All the best

Keith

having ridden my bike to work and back (from Farnborough to Southampton) twice in the last two weeks on the M3 I have more respect for the wind.

I hate it when its windy because it can hit you when you least expect it, rain ain't so bad as you can see it and you knows its the road is going to be slippery so you take it easier but wind gives no warning.

I don't enjoy riding about in the wind especially on open roads and i tend to avoid going out if its that bad. Rain don't bother me too much, as long as i have all the gear on and with the visor down you barely notice, just have to be careful round bends and watch those brakes.

How about gail force winds/ heavy rain together Embarassed .

I had a lot of wind to content with on the motorways today. At one point there was severe terrential rain, I could barely see past my screen, the A34 flooded and traffic slowed to about 30-40 mph. Got absolutely drenched, despite wearing waterproofs but that wasn't nearly as bad as some of the cross winds on the motorways!

Especially when you go past a bloody lorry Confused

In my ped days, I used to love the wind when it was behind me. When it was in front of me...well that is a completely different story.

Got my bike on Thursday last week, took it out on Saturday. Didn't allow for the wet surface on a car park and went sliding along on my backside for a while. Was fun but not something i'd like to do on the roads. Not too much damage to the bike, only scratches. I'm glad I didn't bother getting anything covered in plastic like I was planning.

So yea, rain is the worst in my oppinion, the wind i find makes things more interesting.

Strong sidewinds are a nightmare. Seriously scary.

I was on an open road once, with fields at either side. I slowed down to about 5-10mph but still couldn't keep on the road. The wind was so stong that no matter how much I tried to steer the bike just wouldn't.

I think the awfuly stiff head bearings at the time didn't help though.

Wind, gets me stuck in traffic, I can filter in the rain, not as well as in the dry, but I can.
In strong wind, I will take somones mirrors away or worse.
Seen it happen, seen bikers slowly filtering one car at a time in the wind and giving up, giving up or causing damage.
The wind was strong enough to nearly blow me over at a stand still on one of its gusts.
Was horrible.
At least rain you know whats up Sad
