Is it because its London or because i have L plates and therefore don't count as i am below contempt! I noticed it seems to change outside of London or am i imagining it?

see your point but some old fella's have especially if you are stopped at the lights together, i used to talk to cycle couriers etc when cycling London especially when sharing intimate moments with bendy buses

People in London are far to busy and important to nod. A lot of motorcyclists in the capital are not bikers, they are car drivers on bikes avoiding the congestion charge.

I don't understand why when people move to London they feel its ok to be an arsehole all the time, i have been in London for 13 years and still appear to be the only guy in London who gives up his seat for old ladies and pregnant women, i also work long hard hours and have tired feet. Still its actually quite fun riding through London if you don't let people wind you up commuting on by bike is one of my favourite parts of the day

ps i don't expect people to nod at me or feel bad if they don't i just find the difference in behaviour in and out of London interesting

I live just outside London and rarely get nods at all, I put it down to L plate contempt too!

Sports bike riders only really give the nod back. I nod to the pedbois & cruisers and sometimes the chopper type bikes even though they just like to think they're too cool to nod to anyone.

It's just a polite thing like Marjay said, I say hello to people I walk past too. Not every single person but still. There's not a huge amount of bikes around here anyway so it's nothing like London I imagine.

As above - so many bikes in London that the locals don't bother to nod generally.

I do nod at other bikers (out of London, anyway), but I'm not insulted if I don't get one back - it doesn't actually really mean anything.

I do nod to Sports and Naked bikes, not to cruisers or peds. But there's so many bikes in London i doubt they bother, most of them are working too.

I rarely see more then 5 bikes on the road in a day, so its not a common thing.

Yay a nodding thread! I find I'm too busy negotiating my way around traffic to even think about nodding in London. The only exceptions are in smaller back/side roads where most people seem to nod, in my experience. The nodders start to come forth once you cross the M25 and I enjoy giving nods once the traffic has chilled out. I also like to chat to learners should the opportunity arise. Had a few nice conversations with people at traffic light stops on the A12 etc. People learning the Knowledge, or taking their tests soon etc. All interesting stories that spice up my day. It doesn't cost anything to be polite.

I nod when its appropriate to do so. If i receive no nod, i'm not bothered.
What i don't like is people not returning a 'good morning' when i'm out n about (not talking center of town here). Same goes for if i open a door for someone and they...just walk through like its my job to open doors or summat.

You don't have time to nod in London, you've got other things to occupy your time, like keeping tabs on all the homicidal, mostly unlicenced and uninsured, half-blind cretins that threaten your life on a ride by ride basis.

It's not about unfriendly or 'too cool for school' it's about having to pay twice as much attention as anywhere else in the country.

I'm in London and nod pretty much all the time unless I'm concentrating

I've noticed couriers and mopeders (not the chav type) don't nod back so I tend to ignore them now unless they nod first
