I think these are the ones I use and they are fantastic

Definetly a 10 out of 10, dont distort with bassy music, loud enough to hear clearly on a naked bike at 90mph. Used them every day for 6 months now and when they die I will be getting another pair.

Took them from my dads house since nobody was using them, always assumed they were alot more expencive than that

Ideally you need a closed back ear canal headphone with excellent external noise isolation and minimal extrusion from your ear (i.e. they don't stick out so won't catch on your helmet when you put it on/off). That way you can block out wind/road/engine noise and listen to your tunes without having to crank up the volume to the max and damage your ears even worse than you would without any music/headphones or ear plugs.

The Sennheiser CX300 are decent and do a nice job, though you don't get all that much bass or detail with them especially with wind/road noise in the background.

The Sennheiser IE4 (at ~£50) are better. I use the CX6 (~£100) which fit all the requirements and come with a number of different sizes and styles of rubber tips so you can find the one that gives you the best sound/isolation for your ears. They're also based on their professional studio models so sound brilliant too right down to low level detail.

To go even further, there are a number of companies which offer custom moulded tips for their headphones to give near complete isolation, though I tend to think that it's essential to be able to hear background and road noise to at least a minor degree.

They are so popular that they are being copied. Buy from a reputable outlet.
They are still the bestest of the cheapest.

I go a "star" helmet speakers set. the speakers fit in the lining of my helmet and my mp3 connects at the rear of my "lid". I still get the important ambient noise and have a comfortable sound system.
The only thing I have done is to increase the size of the connecting jack plug.
