i am helping a mate do the fork seals on his ZZ600 R.

they were fairly straight forward, if a little sticky & tight due to dirt and corrosion.
however we do not have a manual for that particular bike!!, and i cant find the manual to my ZX6R which might of been able to help as they are similar bikes.

what we need to know if anybody out there knows, is how much fork oil to replace in the forks now we have a nice new set of seals in place.

anybody!!

Hi

Exactly what model of ZZR is it? Think the D and early E models had one amount / grade, while the later E models had a different amount and grade.

All the best

Hi

At that age a D model I think. From the Kwak manual, 10W20 oil, about 384ml when changing the oil or 452ml from disassembled and dry. Either way it should be a 140mm air gap (springs out and forks compressed).

All the best

just took the ZZR for a spin after putting all the fairing back on & cleaning up the calipers.

it handles a whole heap better now (obviously!) the forks are working with the same amounts of oil in them and the calipers & discs are not getting a mist of oil on them Smile

it will need a new oil cooler at some time as the one on the bike has taken a hiding from rubbish on the road, but it`s sound so that can wait.

Hi

Our ZZR used to handle horribly. Tried loads of things. finally found the problem was that someone in the past had rebuilt the forks, and it looks like they used the wrong specs. The fork oil in one fork was far thicker than the other. Looks like they used the oil listed for the early bikes in this one which is a later one.

All the best

now the front end is done, we need to think about the rear shock.

it`s just been rebuilt and put back on the bike, but we need to set it up/get the right adjustment...... it`s a tad soft so we need to click it round a couple of notches with a c-spanner.

Hi

Good luck. It is a pain to get at. Probably easiest to remove it to adjust it.

All the best
