Wiring

Does any one know how to wire a sat-nav in to a bikes electrics. What is the best way around it, wire in a cigaret lighter socket in the electics so i always have it if i need it or just straight wire it in?

What are the tools i may need aswell.

Yep, wire up a lighter socket - job done .... you can charge your mobi too!!

Your only decision you then need is if it will be permanently or switched live ....

I connected mine to the Fan wiring. The fan does not go on much so the only load will normally be the satnav, also it is switched off when the keys are turned off.
The trouble with a socket is will it be moisture proof.

I've always gone down the relay route.

On some bikes, the rear brake light swith is a good one to hack in to, to provide the relay trigger, On my ER6 i've used the rear number plate light.

I've fitted the relay, and then put in a cigarette lighter socket under the seat.

Because my sat nav needed a long cable, I purchased a cigarette lighter to USB connector, (ie £2 from ebay), I then purchased a 2 metre Mini 5-Pin Type B usb cable again about £2 from ebay.

Job done.
