Ok guys and girls. This video is horrific in my opinion. If you are feint hearted and an animal lover then I advise you do not watch this as it has some horrible footage. It is all real and set up by a company called 'Peta' who fight for animal rights.
https://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?video=mym2002
Basically, it is footage of the abuse animals we eat actually get.
If you are a vegetarian then just don't watch this.
One last thing. It is a very long video but doesn't take long to start playing (depending on your connection) but is long length wise.

It is awfull but if it can get across to enough people maybe something can change. I'm a member of PETA as it happens.

During the Foot And Mouth crisis I was unfortunate enough to work for an Enforcement Agency involved.
I worked predominantly in the Forest Of Dean where prior to the outbreak Sheep were allowed to graze freely within a statutory designated area that has been in effect for hundreds of years. Unfortunately it was decreed that all of the Sheep and Lambs would have to slaughtered to prevent a spread of the disease. Consequently they were all rounded up and subsequently herded onto a 3 mile road in the centre of the Forest and placed in pens.
It was a stomach churning sight to see these poor animals being shepherded towards numerous vets who were injecting them with a poisonous liquid that killed them instantly - they were then tossed away to be placed on numerous pires that were piled high with animal carcasses and subsequently burned.
I saw grown 'hardened' men (farmers, vets, those that work in the meat industry) cry tears of anguish during the period of Foot And Mouth, cradling newly born lambs in my arms and watching them die immediately in front of me after a lethal injection was a terrible and sobering experience.
I haven't eaten meat since. ____________________ Mellow Yellow

I'll eat meat for as long as it is the most naturally effective way of getting Protein. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. One question...this video was made in America, are standards in Britain better or worse? ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. The world is indeed a cruel place and survival of the fittest is the only rule. Sharks, lions, tigers, aligators,etc... they don't hesitate to rip apart another animal in the most cruel of fashions.
I wonder where people will draw the line? How small does an "animal" have to be before it's ok to kill it? Rats? Beetles? Ants? Bacteria? (A bit perdantic but this is why I just eat what I want...) ____________________ Last bike - 2004 CBR 125 - Gone but not forgotten

Agree with the past two posts...Meat tastes good, I don't eat like eating replacement proteins like Quorn which are in fact fake and artificial and I like Natural things to be honest.

I didn't watch the film because I've seen enough of that sort to last me a lifetime.
I was a vegetarian for about 6 years but I'm not anymore. Having said that, I really don't eat much meat. I eat chicken, turkey and fish fairly regulary, but that's about it.
Health wise, there is no vitamin in meat that can't be obtained from eating stuff like cereal (B12 being the main one) so I don't consider meat to be staple food in my diet - I eat stuff like soup, cereal, rice cakes, potatoes, fish, curry, cous cous, eggs, cheese, pesto pasta...
Although my reasons are not due to the animal cruelty that occurs, I can see why some folk don't eat meat for that reason.
Oh, and for those that say "if we didn't breed animals for meat then they wouldn't have a life at all" - pah! That's no excuse for mistreating them, and personally if I knew I was going to be tortured for the hell of it then killed, I'd prefer not to be born into this world at all. |

All I can think of is 'Haven't people heard of the "Food Chain"?'. Although that video is extremely shocking, that is the severe cases, not all animals are treated that way. There not going to show you the ones where there treated good are they. They want to shock you. And everyone knows what Americans are like, they dramatize everything. Was it just me, or was the voice over getting on your tits? I will be keeping this video though, putting it to disk and showing a few people, see what they think. All-in-all, I think if their treated like that, then it's very wrong indeed, but, like I said, their not all treated like that.
Also, that file isn't small at all, 158MB. ____________________ Veni Vidi Vici |

Actually people only started eating meat during and after the first ice-age, originally people didn;t eat meat: FACT
This can be seen as it is the biggest cause of stomach rott, stomach cancer, tooth rott and constipation. People dont need meat anymore than they need fizzy drinks.

| Quote: | Now then, let us reason like gentlemen. There are some intelligent arguments for vegetarianism, but claiming that man is "naturally" herbivorous isn't one of them. The settled judgment of science is that man is an omnivore, capable of eating both meat and vegetables, much as certain four-year-olds might like to convince their mothers otherwise.
Like the hard-core carnivores, we have fairly simple digestive systems well suited to the consumption of animal protein, which breaks down quickly. Contrary to what your magazine article says, the human small intestine, at 23 feet, is a little under eight times body length (assuming a mouth-to-anus "body length" of three feet). This is about midway between cats (three times body length), dogs (3-1/2 times), and other well-known meat eaters on the one hand and plant eaters such as cattle (20 to 1) and horses (12 to 1) on the other. This tends to support the idea that we are omnivores.
Herbivores also have a variety of specialized digestive organs capable of breaking down cellulose, the main component of plant tissue. Humans find cellulose totally indigestible, and even plant eaters have to take their time with it. If you were a ruminant (cud eater), for instance, you might have a stomach with four compartments, enabling you to cough up last night's alfalfa and chew on it all over again.
Or you might have an enlarged cecum, a sac attached to the intestines, where rabbits and such store food until their intestinal bacteria have time to do their stuff. Digestion in such cases takes place by a process of fermentation--bacteria actually "eat" the cellulose and the host animal consumes what results, namely bacteria dung.
The story is roughly the same with teeth. We're equipped with an all-purpose set of ivories equally suited to liver and onions.
Good thing, too. I won't claim meat is the ideal source of protein, but on the whole it's better than plants. Sure, soybeans and other products of modern agriculture are pretty nutritious. But in the wild, much of the plant menu consists of leaves and stems, which are low in food value. True herbivores have to spend much of the day scrounging for snacks just to keep their strength up.
So make no mistake: we were born to eat meat. That's not to say you have to. There's no question that strictly from a health standpoint we'd all be a lot better off eating less meat (red meat especially) and more fruits and vegetables. But vegetarians aren't going to advance their cause by making ridiculous claims.

Although that is a very interesting example, and an intelectually approached one i tend to disagree, and so does history, studies have proven that pre-iceage1 man didnt consume meat, we only started because it was a life or death situation.
The reason that our bodies are now capable of digesting meat (and still not that well) is due to evolution, we have continued to eat meat therefore our bodies have adapted to it.
And btw for previous people that have commented: 'suvival of the fittest', is this to emply that if we didnt slaughter livestock they would pose a threat to us!?!?!?!?!?! because thats what 'suvival of the fittest' means.
But hey, choosing not to eat is my decision, in the same way it is your decision to eat it, so hey, who cares! ____________________ brooooom, BROOOOommmm

Thats just some ignorant bantering from an unaware fool. Im not angered that people eat meat, and I dont not eat meat because of animal cruilty. I dont eat meat....well because I dont have to, in the same way as i dont eat bricks or rubbish I find on the floor. It doesn't appeal to me and without it im just as healthy, and 'normal'. So why bother. I dont pretend that by me not eating meat im 'saving the world'. Who gives a fuck about the world, what are we to 'protect it'. I love how man has this notion that the world belongs to him, and most people semm to forget that if man was abolished tomorrow it would make absolutely no difference to anyone other than man.
