to cut a long story short the meta fob finally died for my bike a few days ago, tried meta, " sorry sir as you don't have the pin code we can't do anything ".

Well of course i don't have the pin code (i don't even have the second fob) as i'm the third owner and one of the earlier owners has lost the bugger. Evil or Very Mad

so cakk the garage as the bike needs a service anyway, "ah right well we can't do it but we'll give you the number of a guy who can, oh and btw this next service is a major one and will take at least 6 hours to the tune of £300 odd" (fair enough it does need it)

ring the guy "ah that'll be £250 to replace the alarm." but at least they'll do it at mine

fecking meta would it really have been that hard to put the pin in the fob? grr.

It your own fault for taking the bike with one fob and nothing else. If I had to that I would pretty much bank on something going wrong with it.

It's the same with keys I cannot understand how people can only have one key, them complain about how mucha new lockset cost.

true but then my only prevoius experience with alarms was on the fazer and that only came with 1 fob but it never developed any issues , according to the guy whose replacing it it's getting more and more common with the early meta alarms.

Edit: though i do have all the keys,.

Is it worth contacting the person you bought the bike off? I have a meta alarm on the TDM it came with 2 fobs and a red card with the code on it. They guy might still have it I think a new fob is about £70.

bought it from a dealers unfortunately. ah well might have to lay off buying a wide angle for a while.
at least the datatool it's getting replaced with has a programable code that i can set. i wouldn't be replacing it bar the fact the insurance would skyrocket.

I've got a Meta Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser, but it only gives me around £20 insurance discount. I often wonder if its worth having one.

Exactly! I am quite happy with my £20 cyclone alarm which makes a hella racket if anyone tries to move the bike while i am in bed. Well that and the 2 chains, 2 ground anchors and cctv camera on the bike when it is at home.
Dont see the point of an immobilser - you can push a bike away or throw it in a van with the imobilser imobilsing its little electronic heart out!
Do quite like the idea of the datatool snitcher text alert thing which would be the only electronic alarm upgrade i would consider getting.

An immobiliser is handy to stop kids pinching your bike and ragging the bollocks off it around the streets. and as that happened to my bike once before, I don't fancy knowing it's happening again!

The savings an alarm can provide on insurance all come down to how long you're going to keep the bike, over the cost of the alarm, along with the other benefits of having the alarm!

To the OP, can you not get hold of a second hand alarm, same model, and just wire it in the current ones place?
