I can get a Daihatsu Gran Move 1.5i (1997/1997) for £250, 36k on the clock, from my brother, who's had it from brand new, been sat on his drive for two years since he got his Skyline. Worth around £1500.

Anyone got any gen on them? Apparently very reliable. £125pa tax. I'm pretty tired of the Shogun's 3.5 gas-guzzling insanity.

I'm assuming all the gas in the tank will have turned to dust. Will it have messed up the fuel system (injectors etc)? I'm thinking I can put a gallon in, with some injector-cleaner, and hope for the best.

Do it! In this day and age owning a gas guzzler just give the government a reason to rape you more than they do already.

I went from twin turbo Supra to a Fiat Abarth (both drink it like its water), and now I have replced the Abarth with a Grande Punto 1.3 turbo diesel Very Happy

75+mpg on the motorway, 40mpg around town and tax is £35 a year. At the moment it costs me just over 30 quid to fill up and that will last me almost a month.

Although when labour catch on to the fact I'm not spending much money they will find some other way of taking my money from me. Middle Finger

Thumbs Up

Na, be fine. Wouldn't go full throttling it anywhere without at least topping up the tank with fresh petrol first, mind. The more important thing to do with it would be to do an oil change.

Bloody insurance company is a joke. Mine doesn't do multi-car, "will have to be a seperate quote, and can't use your NCB as you're using that on the Shogun (£200pa)...so, for the bean-can that would be...£650."

Or £250 with my NCB. £50 more than for the 3.5 Shogun.

Soon as I get the reg number I'll be checking out the Meercat.

Do it. If you hate it, I'll probably buy it off you, will be wanting some basic wheels again at some point.

Make sure you know what the excess is, they're very high at the moment (for bikes anyway, not sure about cars).

If I sold it I'd be looking for considerably more than £250. There're two on Ebay right now, exact same car but with a lot more mileage (and a busted door-handle on one), current bid at £1650 I think (might be the buy it now price) and £1550 respectively.

The only negative is it's a family death-trap in a crash. And not as much cargo-space for camping.

I read that as Daihatsu Man Groove. Shocked

Anyway, buy it and if you hate it sell it on the ebay for a tidy profit. It's a no brainer.

Picked the car up yesterday. My brother's partner, who paid for the car originally, tried to double the price (which I accepted) but he's slapped her down (I'm not handing the cash over untill the end of the month).

Anyway, I put a gallon of gas in it, along with some cleaner stuff, but it started on the first turn of the key from the jumpstart. Thumbs Up Shocked It ran a bit rough for a few miles, got it to Halfords and stuck a brand new battery in it, filled the tank, then by the time we'd got it back to mine it was running sweet as a nut. Best bit is it looks like I've already got it sold, for £900. I'll have to get it MOTd but not taxed, as the buyer has a disability and doesn't have to have any.

That was my excitement for the month. Laughing

It's not an issue, the entire cheapness gig was on the basis of me doing all the shit of getting a major obstruction off their drive with minimal effort from them. His partner is a millionaire, she's just tight with it. I'm making £470 profit, for getting it roadworthy, cleaning it, MOT and organizing selling it.

So you wanted to keep the vehicle with which to invade Poland? Infact, I think the Shogun could cross the Steppe. TO STALINGRAD!

Seriously though, what happened to downsizing?

The Daihatsu is too small for camping. Granted that it's only two trips per year but it would make those experiences pretty fraught. Then there's getting rid of the Shogun, which has non-functional ABS with a workaround to get it through its MOT each year, not very saleable properties.

And, finally, the Daihatsu is a fecking noddy-car. Laughing

So... all the better to get the comedy moment when someone gets out of their car, and you unfold yourself from your clown car.

The face is priceless.

If I could shift the Shogun for some cash to offset against the noddy-car I'd keep it. The thought of just dumping the Shogun is a total non-starter. It's a rock-solid motor with easily another 100,000k in it.

Sell the Noddy car, throw some of the money at the Shogun, see what it's worth then and chop it in or sell it on...

Simples ?...

The Mitsu diagnostic pin-pointed the G-Sensor (£600) or ABS ECU (£1200) as the problem. Mitsu don't have parts to use as diagnostics, so I would have to buy the G-Sensor, and if it wasn't that Mitsu would not refund me the money for it, and then I'd have to buy the ECU as well...so £1800. That's not a gamble I can afford to take.

In all my time searching through breakers yards (something that is now illegal by the way) I never saw a Shogun. I'm a member of the Shogun Owners Club, and nobody there was able to suggest a cheap alternative to Mitsubishi's fraudulent prices (and their fraudulent method of trying to force you to give them large sums of money).

Those components are deliberately designed to fail quickly, because Mitsu know you have a simple choice...give them at least £600, or just as likely £1800, or scrap your car.

Or get around it, but end up with a car very difficult to sell on.

I've used these in the past for parts, admittedly not for a Mitsu' but they've more often than not got the parts in, I've sent people there on a regular basis in the past and a few mates and relatives have worked there breaking the cars...

One side's an Auction for whole cars and the other is the breakers...

They are based in Darlaston near Wednesbury, about ten minutes away from me and I assume they do postage but never looked as I go down there...

They haven't got any Shoguns showing but worth watching as they have stock regular I believe...

https://www.motorjunction.com/

Also why is it illegal to search through breakers yards now then Hetz ?...
