Laminated bamboo sounds amazing. Bamboo grows so fast and is such amazing stuff anyway, so if we can shape it how we like we could reduce metal and plastic use in quite a few areas.

I think consistency is also another factor in scaffold choice. You need to know everything will be the same if your going to make things modular so that pretty much anybody can build it. I suspect bamboo scaffolding is a dark art that takes years to perfect.

The de Havilland light bombers in WW2 was made of wood laminate, was just as strong as its aluminium alloy competitors. It was the best bomber of WW2 and one of the best aircraft full stop.
