cg125 gear box, up down??? confused.

hi everyone first post woop, right ive passed my cbt and theory test just looking at a few hundred quids worth of 125 for a learner until my direct access test in a month or two (wanna pass first time). so need a geared bike. had a ring around and a friend of a friend has a cg125, 2001 drum brakes model kick start thing, everything seems to work not been started for months. the gear set up is confusing me. ive driven bikes for years and its normally 1 down 4/5 up. this one i was looking at was all down. i.e. neutral at top and 5 down gears. only had a quick look on my way home ill have a drive soon but it all seemed to work. he only wants 400 for it. ive heard off a mate about the chinese engines sometimes that have been fitted to these bikes, how do i tell if its a replica honda engine or the genuine thing?

sorry your quite right! mate of mine keeps slapping me for that one. ride not drive i shall remember!

no thats what got me thinking... im not sure it really matters to me to be honest but if its a chinese fake thing then its probably worth even less then he wants for it. i can get a two year old chinese replica off autotrader for 8/£900 with a couple of thousand miles on it! cheers for help and i await any further info from anyone else

I'd say hold out on buying the 125.

Just get nothing, have a few days tuition for the DAS, pass that then spend the £900 you'd spend on a CG125 thing on an older Hornet. .
