fist of all, thanks to everyone for their advice on everything! i found something within my immediate budget and instantly knew i wanted it. phoned the guy, he brought it over to look at and i didnt even quibble about the price much, it was that great.
so here it is, my new zx7r 
the pics really dont do it justice, the condition is fucking unbelievable and the amount of paperwork with it is massive! it's got a hindle can, sounds quite nice actually, a nitron racing shock, newly powder coated wheels and some other tarty bits. only problem is it's not green!

Always had a soft spot for ninjas.
Looks awesome apart from the colour. I thought it was the law for a ninja to be green or black...

That hornet, the 7r is a big heavy bike, but its well known for excellent handling, stability at speed and its superb front end. The weight distribution is towards the front of the bike that probably helps contribute to this.
Andys site has several things you can do to speed up the steering of the bike, some of which i have done and its fantastic.
Like you i wanted a green one, but i spotted a red one and instantly wanted it as well, keep it red!  |

You are supposed to drop the clutch out and measure the clearance, and set it up that way, but a rough guide for medium slip, as most peoples plates will be worn etc is to replace 3 of the 2.3mm plates with 2mm plates (extra 0.9mm clearance) and add medium strength white springs (or put spacers in to stiffen up the stock ones).
it doesnt cost much either, £5 a steel clutch plate and prob £10 or something for a set of springs.
Its a P3 late regged in 99, Its in pretty good nick
I also dropped yokes down the forks by 10mm too to speed up the steering which is easy to do

that sounds really complicated so ill leave the clutch be for now 
i've had an ok ride on it, country roads are pretty awesome on it but im a bit dodgy around the city for some reason, feels like i should be taking corners much quicker. it loves speed though, at lower speeds it's a bit twitchy but once you get going it feels like you're gliding, i love it!

paid 1800 for it with 20k on it, bit over the odds, i know but was worth it with the amount of history it had with it plus all the spares and receipts and extras. im ecstatic with it anyway, is perfect for me

When i first got the 7r, it took me a week or so to get used to it as well at slow speeds, i kept going wide on slow junctions/corners for some reason, maybe it was because you are so leant over the front. Im not sure, but anyway you quickly get used to it and its no issue at all
at some stage il get around to doing the clutch, when i do il do a little write up, iv never done anything like it before so it will be my first shot at playing with a clutch anyway
Did my valve clearances yesterday, again first time for everything! luckily all in spec, so never had to take the cam shafts off etc |

yeah i had a bit more of a hoon today and my cornering is getting a little better but it feels like the front is gonna go and it's not progressive and i need to correct myself a bit, i also go wide on the turn a little bit sometimes.
let me know when you get it done and ill take a looksie, but wont be trying it too soon as im happy with it as is for now, even if it does like to find neutral now and again.
