What does the throttle position sensor do on a carbed CBR600?

What happens if you disconnect it?

I can understand on a FI that it would be used to control the fuel or air flow but on a carbed bike?

Hi

1200 Bandits have them as well (well, on some markets, think the US ones do without them). Not sure exactly what it is used for but my guess would be to change the ignition mapping depending on throttle position.

All the best

Keith

It is used in conjunction with the electronic ignition. It will advance and retard the ignition dependant on the throttle postion in order to maximise throttle response.

Leave it connected.

Taking your advice on board I disconnected it and rode 20 odd miles. I can't tell the difference?

My old sv650 had one. I disconnected it and rode it for a bit. It ran fine for a few hours then it started to backfire and would cut out if i shut the revs off.

if you want to feel the difference find yourself a steep long hill and try to get to the top in top gear, then try it with it disconnected

the ignition will adjust to assist you, you need a wide open throttle in a high gear but low engine rpm to feel the difference.

I used gorsty hill in halesowen, 2 up, 6th gear on a hornet, just whack the throttle back at 35-40 mph and it pulls you to the top of the hill without having to change down a gear
