Managed to survive the journey from Essex to Southampton even if it did take me over 4 hours. Got a bit lost in central london and whist trying to find a way from the a31 to southampton without using the m3.

However when I was in london and in stop start traffic, the bike got pretty hot and since then it's been a nightmare to get into neutral. All other gear changes seems to work fine.

Might turn out to be absolutely fine tomorrow when it's cooled down...

Yeah, I've had that happen. Many years ago I spent a couple of weeks using the RXS to despatch on, constant stop start for eight hours a day. Was more or less impossible to get into neutral sometimes.

It's possible to sort the problem, but only worth doing if you're going to use the bike like that all the time.

Clutch cable gets hot in stop start traffic and lengthens slightly. This makes getting neutral a bit of a bugger, adjust the lever to it's proper amount of play when the engine is hot.

I wouldnt imagine it would by too much unless the freeplay litterally takes the piss. Adjust if no cure then the plates may or may not be the problem.

Why did you go through London? Definately the Wrong way, I used to go to pompey on my RXS.

Go over the Dartford bridge then turn off on the A225, I can't rememeber the exact route but it involved the A264/A272, it is a nice little run and much better than going through London.

It's not the cable or the plates that causes the RXS neutral issue. It's the selector drum detent bearing spring - it needs to be slightly shorted (less pressure on the bearing) if you do lots of stop start riding in hot weather. This does mean it's easy to go through neutral when trying to find it when the motor isn't red hot, though.

The idea of going over the dartford bridge scared me a little bit. But central london now scares me a lot more so I'll definitely be taking that route in the future.

Ahhh the Dartford Bridge... Done it on the 125, really struggles to get 40-45mph on the incline. I swear I could feel the bike's pain. Laughing

It's not so much the speed that worries me. I know the bikes capabilities after using just about every kind of road (except motorways) yesterday. Even got the bike to 70 down some hills Smile It's just the large number of HGVs that use that bridge and if one doesn't see me I'm stuffed...

I've always found major roads (particularly the M25) more scary than central London, which is just one huge jam. The traffic doesn't really move fast enough to do you any serious damage, so long as you keep your wits about you and don't try to take on cabs or buses Shocked Laughing

One road I've always loved and hated in equal measure is the notorious Jubilee Way. Great on summer days with a following breeze, but fucking terrifying in bad weather with a couple of massive trucks bearing down on you Shocked
