Providing he can control him self to start with it should be fine.... IMHO 600s are easier to ride than 400s.
If it's a new GSXR then the running in period will give him time to get used to the power.

Because you don't need to rev it as much to get power.... in most cases you can just turn the throttle on a 600 and get a fairly smooth straight power delivery.
A 400 is a lot 'peakier' ie there's not much power at low revs then a fair bit in the powerband, you'll also need to change gear more on a 400 to keep it in the powerband.

Big vtwins like the storm krew's take this a step further with a lot of tourque thoughout the rev range which means being able to turn the the throttle and bugger off into the distance whatever gear you're in.

It depends on his mental and physical dexterity!...if he can stay controlled for a little while to get used to the bike first, then he should stay alive...Confused

I know plenty of ppl who jumped on 600s after their tests (but they were DAS), but most of them have actually stacked their bikes soon after! Confused

But that's not to say that everyone is the same. Smile

I stacked my klr & my nsr after my test & several years of riding!

The important bit is *control*...don't think you're a god just because you're faster then 99% of the rest of the vehicles on the road.

That's the major thing about expensive 'first' bikes... the probability is you *will* stack it at some point (or maybe that's just me Confused) so it's often worth looking at something you won't mind being slung along the road Smile

Also I think the GSXRs are large bikes. My ex has been riding for 8 years, and just bought a gxsr600 and finds it big to handle - not while its riding..... but when hes trying to push it round etc etc...

Dunno, might be a big bloke and not an issue - but personally I wouldnt like to drop an expensive bike trying to push it out the garage!! Laughing

When - note that's when not if - I pass my test, I'm gonna go 600 straight away. I've been told by sooooooo many riders that it's the best place to start because you get a 'bit of everything' power for when needed (don't be daft tho') weight to keep you upright (the biggest bugger is when the wind hits my 125!) and the opportunity to have some fun if you want to (not likely we don't want to is it?)

BUT be sensible!!! I'll probably get a bandit to start with then move onto a blade, r6, vtr etc in a year or two!!

I rekon a 400 would last me 6 months and I'd want to trade up and honestly I think most would be the same.[/b][/u][/i]
