I am looking at buying a 1998 ZX6r G1 but it's a cat c bike,
it's been fully repaired and is absolutely mint not a mark on it with low miles and frame looks good it was written of in 2002 and has had 3 owners since

does anybody have any idea of what it's worth?

I was thinking £900 to £1000

any help would be appreciated

The cheapest G model on Autotrader is £1600. If it's in as good condition as you say then it'll be worth more than £1000, if you can get it for that then well done.

Except for the writing on the panel behind the rear seat ?!?!? Wink

I'm not sure being a cat C is that detrimental to the value of a bike now a days, i'd expect that to still be worth £1300+, or at least, if i was looking for a 600 sports, i'd pay £1300 for that and consider it to be a good deal.

I have no issue with Cat C, my car has been Cat C twice Mr. Green .

I think someone in the insurance biz told me they are typically worth 20% less, if you can get it for a grand then snap his hands off!

I wouldn't touch a Cat anything with a pole. Once a bike has been that badly smashed there's no knowing what hidden damage, stresses, cracks and whatnot have been inflicted, waiting to fully reveal themselves at 150mph.

Id be somewhat inclined to agree with that. Plenty of straight bikes around so personally I would avoid any damage/repaired.

I bet trying to sell on a Cat C/D would be an arse as well. I always like to think of the money I spend on bikes you can get back quickly if you had to and think it would take a lot of time and stress trying to sell a write off.

It was written off 8 years ago, I should imagine any problems from the crash would have surfaced by now. That said, it must have been a pretty bad smash to total loss such a new bike Neutral

I'd always look to buy a Cat C or D when I can. The same bike for much less. That bike should be about £1100.

Bikes are given Cat C status for anything as simple as a broken front fairing stay or bent forks. Easy enough to repair and easy enough to get inspected by those in the know if you were worried.
