Hi guys

looks like a great forum! My kid has a 2002 aerox 100 which he lost interest and its been left lying outside for months now in all the bad weather. He lost the fuel cap and had paper stuffed in it! I bought it off him to fix as it was a disgrace to treat it like this.....need help to get it going please.

1. Is there a special tool to take the plug out as there is a bar stopping the spark plug spanner going in.

2. How do you drain the tank

3. Can I use a 12volt bike battery to start this 6volt bike or jump start from the car?

I have the seat out and all around the petrol cap stripped.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

Hi, is it the air cooled one or not? this may or may not be relivant later, right mate, i've worked on so many aerox's i can whistle and the bikes strip themselves.
Start taking all the panels off start from the back to the middle.
Remove the foam seating and the bucket (riders) seat.
When removing the seat the cable can be removed from the bucket sets fork like lever and bent back when re-installing.
The fuel tank is under the foam seat, undo what you can see and drain it out and dispose of the fluids appropriatly.
Take it inside your house and let it dry out may take a few days.

You might also want to drain the carb, its a blade type screw on the float bowl, it will be the lowest screw, or if its like the new versions, its a push up valve, you just lift it slightly to drain.

Thanks tug. I cant see any rad so i guess its air cooled. Got the tank drained. I cant find the drain on the carb, cant see anything on top and theres 1 screw beside a plastic drain at the bottom which is really tight, its a star type. Is there some special way to get the plug out......I would like to look at it......

Anyway I put the tank back with new fuel and it wont start, not even trying.

Batterys for that bike are cheap anyway, Check the fuse hasn't blown just to make sure. it should be in the battery tray.
It should be a kick start bike and electric, so if it won't start on the battery then kick is best, but you need to drain your carb and your petrol tank before you go any further, as your son has lost the petrol cap it will be full of water and it will never run correctly.
Also kick him in.

I did drain the tank and put new fuel in. I will have a look at the carb again and if its 2 screws that remove the bottom of it then i see them. Its the spark plug i cant get at...does it require a special tool as there is no room to put in an ordinary plug socket?

I tried kicking it for about 10 minutes, knackered now, lol, its easier connected to the car!

Halfords spark plug socket and a 24mm spanner i think will wip it off in seconds.
The 2 screws are to remove the float bowl, you dont need to touch them. Its the lower part of the float bowl you need to worry about unless your confusing the idle mixture screw and float drain screw up.
Take a picture and i'll show you.

That picture is the top of your carb. The float bowl is underneath. There will be a pipe or an outlet on it with a blade screw litterally right next to it, that is your float chamber drain. If its like the new aerox's then it will be a white plastic push up to open drain.

I only uploaded the pic incase u could identify which carb is was from the top. I found the screw beside the hose as I said but it has been ringed. The only chance to remove is probably on the bench. Should I remove the carb altogether but there are strange looking screws holding it in?

The strange looking screws are torx head, you can find the bits for them in halfords/most auto parts shops Thumbs Up

2002 aerox will be 12v not 6v Wink

A type CT4L-BS is what you need for the aerox Thumbs Up

Also you wont need to unbolt the reed block fron the engine to remove the carb, you should have a jubilee type clamp holding the carb to the rubber inlet block.

Not sure on the size but a pack of assorted sizes should only cost a couple of quid .

The Aerox YQ100 is an air cooled motor for sure - only the 50's were LC ( which seems backward to me )

The plug itself should just come out with a ring spanner mate or better yet an open ender - that's what i used to use.

Be warned now they are horrible scooters to work on , i had mine for just under 2 years and they are a pig .
The plug gets wet in the rain if the road is wet and the bike conks out .
The exhaust was always snapping just below the manifold and it was forever blowing relay fuses .
Oh and i pretty much had to rebuild the top end every 5-6 months - this was on a scooter i only used for going 3 miles to work an back on each day .

Sounds delightful...

In summary, fix it - flog it - by something else Thumbs Up

The Torx bits are normally fairly cheap mate, I don't doubt that there will be a few others knocking around, my bike is littered with them so just buy a set.

You can buy a big set off ebay for a fiver, in a blue box its worth 10 times its weight in gold.
I agree, fix it and sell it.
Yes you'll need to take the carb off if someones stripped the head. a pair of pliers with a tight grip will undo it and bleed it.

Got the carb off, drained and refitted, still wont start after kicking it to death.....not even trying.....did yamaha design this kick for a 4 year old, i can just about get my heel on it! Im gona hook it up to the car but would have liked to have seen if its sparking ok. These things are harder to work on than a proper bike ffs.

Just discovered theres a plastic cover on the head....does this pull off, I have undone one clip below but it wont budge, I'm assuming this has to be off to allow access to remove the plug?

Its to create a enclosed space for the fan to cool the engine (air cooled) and they're a pig to start when the carb has been drained or is new, take the air box cover off, air filter out, buy a can of brake cleaner and spray near the bike as the engine cranks, you have replaced the battery havent you?

I had the air filter off and replaced the battery. I still don't get the plug bit, do I remove the cover to get at the plug? How does it come off? Another bit i don't understand, where do I spray the brake cleaner, into the carb? I'd like to clean or replace/heat up the plug to give it a better chance of starting or do u think I should leave it alone?

Chances are if the carbs not working correctly and it's been stood a while - the Jet has probably rusted .
Remove it and try cleaning it up .

Is there much pressure on the pedal when your trying to kick it?
If there's little resistance then theres no compression - most likely the piston rings ( shite on aerox's ) .
The plug is dead simple mate , like i said i used to use an open ended spanner ( 12mm i think ) until i got a plug socket , granted the design may have changed since i had mine but it's an easy job .

You don't need to remove the plastic shroud , i'll see if i can dig up some old pics of when i had mine apart ...

I took the carb apart and cleaned it, its defo fine. Yours must be a different design as you cant get a spanner near it as there is only about 2 inches of the ceramic showing, the head covers most of it up and there's a bar right facing it that stops a normal plug spanner going in, thats why i think you need to remove the plastic cover but i found one clip holding it and have pulled really hard but it wont budge.

Theres plenty of compression, the bike was fine until he lost interest and left it out with no fuel cap, but this has been drained and new fuel put in. I will take a pic tonight and show u what i mean about the plug. I think if i had this out it might have a chance........its the plug thats doing my head in which should be a 2 minute job................
